Help with Freeview, aerials?

Hmm. Do you get channels like Sky Arts (LCN 11, Quest LCN 12). I had made the assumption that if your aerial is pointing NNW then your signals come from Divis. But the NI mux is very very low power from there. Considering your location, it's also transmitted from the Black Mountain transmitter at a higher power, and could well be within the beamwidth of your aerial.
So a bit of a punt, try a manual tune on UHF Channel 33 instead of 48.
There maybe an option in your TV tuning section called Signal Strength, otherwise if you refer to my previous post with all the channels listed Privacy policy | free and easy , then select each channel in turn, it will hopefully show signal strength and quality (or BER - Bit error rate).
HTH. Ask away if you need further help.

Yes Chris I get Arts on channel 11 and everything else seems in order, except Rte etc
I will do a manual tune on 33 and see how I go.
Many thanks again

Hi Chris,
Having no luck at all with the channels you listed for a manual retune. Everything seems in good order but no luck. There's no signal when I try to do a manual tune on each channel.
Any other advice welcome.
Thanks
Anthony

Hi Anthony.
Other than asking again if you've checked all you coax plugs, connections, flyleads etc, especially if you've altered anything around in your system at any time, unplug connectors check for corrosion or other problems and reconnect them. Flyleads can be a common problem, try swapping them. I should emphasise that problematic connections, etc. can seem to affect reception of just an individual multiplexes. This is due something called standing waves and effects on other multiplexes may be very minor and go unnoticed.
BUT there might be some issue at the transmitter that we aren't aware of, as I note that Divis is now back on the Planned Engineering list. These lists haven't always been accurate in recent times especially with all the problems that have arisen with the two recent storms, things have taken a while to get updated.
Apart from waiting to see if anything comes of that, trying a manual retune on C48 (and C33 just in case) now and again I'm out of ideas at present. Whether anyone else reading has experienced a similar issue, or if there is some unpublished change we'll have to wait and see. If I discover anything I'll post an update. Let us know how you get on.

Hi Chris,
No prob at all. I think I'll just keep trying the manual retune in the hope that the planned engineering at Divis resolves it.
Many thanks again
Much appreciated

Still no luck unfortunately. Would a better aerial solve it. Using a Nikkai aerial which was working fine.
Thanks

Can you try and find a link to something with a picture of that Nikkai aerial. Is it an amplified one?
It may or may not make a difference as you are so close to the transmitter but these types of aerial aren't always the best in some conditions.
Having said that, there are two things to mention.
1)The Planned Engineering may be finished, as Divis is no longer on the list BUT that's no guarantee if past experience is anything to go by!
2) There is currently some moderate to strong temperature inversion/tropospheric ducting conditions affecting large parts of the UK and these weather conditions can disrupt reception for brief or longer periods. The conditions are predicted to last for a few days.
If one of the predictions is accurate NI could be more likely to be affected at present!
The BBC also mention the weather conditions on their Works and Warnings page, but the transmitter tool won't always have current conditions.
So conclusion at present is, keep trying the manual tune on C48 and/or C33. It may be best to wait until weather conditions change before jumping to any further conclusions, but an on-line link to that aerial would be helpful.

Hi Chris,
Here's a link to the aerial.
USED NIKKAI 2 WAY AERIAL SIGNAL BOOSTER | eBay
Thanks again for the info above. Will keep trying. I have a Nordmende tv with built in freeview if that helps also.

Are you sure that link is correct, it seems to be just a booster not an aerial.
I had a Nordmende Analogue TV in use many years ago, superb set it was.
