Obviously, it is one of those great coincidences that happens from time to time.

ITV plc, headed by Michael Grade, who left the BBC after failing to get a decent licence fee settlement, has been paid 2m in a bonus.

ITV ripped off you the viewers to the tune of 7.8 million. Rather than return the cash to the each customer automatically, the broadcaster did the usual make it almost impossible to claim a refund and then donate the cash you have stolen to charity.

Which is all nice and everything, charitable donations can be used to reduce the tax paid by a corporation.

Would you like to take a guess how much tax you get back when you donate 7.8 million to charity?

It is more or less two million pounds, just the same as Mr Grade's bonus.

A curious coincidence, no more.
