There are plenty of ways you can save money by switching to free digital television.

If you have Sky

As long as you have completed twelve months since you first joined Sky, you can leave with immediate notice.

If you have the full Sports and Movies package, you will be paying 564 a year. If you are happy to just have the fSfS (Freesat from Sky) package, you can save a large amount of money.

When you cancel with Sky, you can also swap out your Digibox for a high definition Freesat box, available from many high street stores.

The same applies if you are paying to view channels using a "multiroom". Going for fSfS or Freesat on your second or third TV will save 120 a year on each.

If you have Sky+, there will be Freesat+ boxes out soon one payment and lots of Freesat channels. Otherwise Freeview+ is an option if you can get Freeview.

If you have Sky HD, you pay an additional 120 a year for this. Freesat provides HD channels for no charge.

If you use Sky as your internet service provider, you can find alternative suppliers at thinkbroadband :: Search 500+ UK broadband packages to find the best broadband provider.

If you are using Virgin Media

If you are taking your TV from Virgin Media, you might want to use Freeview or Freeview+. With the same range of channels as the basic Virgin Media, Freeview can easily fitted to all your TV sets, from as little as 20 per set.

Get rid of your television

You can save 136 a year by getting rid of your television set (and receiver boxes) and just watching TV online.

You can watch a large collection of programmes using the BBC iPlayer or services such as UK Nova.

You need a TV Licence if you have any device that can watch live TV, including online. It is NOT required for TV that is not live.
