A year-long trial adds live streaming of BBC channels from 16 S
published on UK Free TV

If you are in the UK, you will be able to watch BBC FOUR, CBBC and CBeebies online from 16 September 2008.

The channels will appear on the relevant BBC websites and also on the iPlayer, with direct links from the UK Free TV right hand 'watch and listen now' from that date.

The BBC points out that recent research by Ofcom suggests that consumers of all ages are showing a growing interest in accessing audio-visual content online, with 17% of those with broadband watching TV on the internet, up by eight percentage points on 2006.

You will need a TV Lisence to watch the Live TV, but none is required to watch non-live content from the iPlayer.

BBC TV boss Jana Bennett said: "The launch of three more BBC Television channels further fulfils the BBC's commitment to increasing the accessibility of our content to licence fee payers. Although still a relatively new phenomenon, watching programmes online is growing; now through simulcasting our channels, viewers can find and watch programmes as they are broadcast as well as having the option of catching up with them later."

BBC iPlayer - iPlayer TV Home to watch on internet

or if your TV does not have digital (only 5 channels) get a set top box
This will do but shop around

Grundig GUD1500 Freeview Set Top Box *Grade A* | Ebuyer.com

Kids TV is on channels 70 to 72

Some kids telly is on BBC1 and BBC2 so keep a look out.

TV Guide UK TV Listings - UK's No 1 TV Listing site for Freeview, Sky, Virgin Media, Freesat & BT Vision is a good internet TV guide, but set the customisation controls in the blue box top left to your area and what service you have.

Hope helps

I believe you can get i-player in the states by using a proxy server to access the i-player website. But you would be breaking copyright.

jane: With no information being given with regards to where in Cornwall is being referred to then the most likely explanation is that your friend resides in an area where reception of Freeview is from a PSB only (limited to public services) relay station.

If though your friend has previously been able to receive ITV3 then its likely that if she/he has carried out a re-tune recently the TV has picked up a local relay transmitter rather than from the main station, but this cannot be confirmed either way without the post code applicable to the area being known.
