Charging an elderly gentleman 30 quid to remove an aerial!
"I'm just going to throw this out to Mark/ Aerialman or any other trade pro's, I was round visiting an elderly gentleman i hadn't seen for a while who had just spent 170 of his pension on a new basic 10 element contract aerial because a nice gentleman called one day and told him his TV would stop working over night.
Now this installer who took down what was a perfectly good J BEAM PRM one of those Parabeam types that was made of space age material from Nasa stood the test of time i know cause i fitted it... I get to view the invoice and i notice a 30 pound added fee for extras, asking him what this was he explained the nice man had offered to take the old aerial away to a scrap yard but as it was "INDUSTRIAL WASTE" he would charge him 30 for the privilege.
I phoned up this fellow who had only just started rigging advertising his unqualified services in the local press after he lost his job as a builder. I pressed him on the extra charge which has now been refunded plus a goodwill gesture for grossly over pricing the job. Have any of you come across this before or recently because it never ceases to amaze me how many cons these people try to pull. This could be common practice in other areas of the country but it doesn't sound like it to me.
Just a warning for people out there!
