Freeview retune - statement

5.45pm, 1 October 2009
The technical upgrade to the Freeview service was completed yesterday on schedule and all signals are broadcasting as expected. The vast majority of viewers appear to have retuned without any problems and are enjoying the full range of digital channels, and we are continuing to provide information and advice to viewers.
These changes will boost existing Freeview coverage of Five and ensure the channel is universally available after digital switchover. They will also allow for the introduction of Freeview HD services from early 2010.
The TV Retune website experienced a high volume of traffic yesterday but continued to provide information and advice throughout the day. At peak times yesterday, a team of more than 300 help line advisors, backed up by automated retune instructions, helped several hundred callers a minute. Today call volumes have reduced significantly.
Any viewers requiring help with retuning can call the TV Retune helpline on 08456 05 11 22 or visit www.tvretune.co.uk
