Channel 4 have submitted an "expression of interest" in providing the backbone network for the local TV network, but not in providing the actual local TV part of it.

BSkyB have said they would be interested in using broadband TV (IPTV) to provide the connectivity the local TV stations to reach the Sky+HD boxes.

Sky say they are not interested in providing the satellite capacity for the local stations to be carried on satellite. This would require, as with the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 regions, each local station to be carried as a separate stream over many transponders, which could be expensive.

Culture Minister Hunt says there are 31 expressions of interest for Local TV, with 5 for services outside England, see Channel 4 bids for national TV network - Media - guardian.co.uk for more.
