Channel 5 HD on Freeview cancelled ... again
Email from Ofcom today says today:
Ofcom has been notified by Channel 5 Broadcasting Limited that it does not wish to proceed with its application for the fifth HD capacity slot on Digital Terrestrial TV at the present time.
Subject to any future Ofcom decision to re-advertise the slot, the capacity will remain with the Multiplex operator BBC Free-to-View Limited and can be used by it for BBC services or services provided by a third party via a commercial arrangement.

As this has happened twice now I think Ofcom should prevent Channel 5 with their HUGE 5 LOGO from ever being able to use this multiplex again and if the BBC had any sense they should add BBC FOUR HD to their HD Multiplex, whilst at the same time removing it's LOGO from bith the atandard anf HD version of the channel, as we BBC FOUR viewers are smart enough not to need one.

We get Granada in Derbyshire on itv HD. Adverts are of course useless for us as they are based on NW region. Does anyone know why?

c woodward: Because there are only a few (six I believe) ITV1 HD feeds in the UK for cost reasons. Having more would increase the cost.
The only benefit from a broadcast point of view to having differing local regions is where local programmes are in HD.

c woodward: Most ITV adverts are sold in the "macro regions", not "news regions". See

Most adverts are not regional anyway and Glossop Caravans advertise on Granada HD and Glossop is in DERBYSHIRE at least it was last time I checked Mr Woodwood. If you get Freesat you can choose your ITV region.

Conor: It rather depends on the contract that Channel 5 have with Sky, and if they wish to renew it.
Film4 HD would be an excellent addition to Freesat.
