Freeview channel number changes to go ahead: HD, Adult move on 17 October 2012

DMOL, the DTT Multiplex Operators co-ordination organization has today announced that appeals by Sky News and an adult channel operator have been rejected.

DMOL, the DTT Multiplex Operators co-ordination organization ha
published on UK Free TV

As first reported earlier in the year, Freeview channel numbers change on September 19th 2012 , some of the channel numbers used by Freeview are being moved to make way for more 'general entertainment' numbers.

However, Sky News and an adult channel appealed, and so the renumbering was put on hold. However, today:

"Both appeals have been considered in accordance with DMOL policy. Having independently reviewed the evidence put forward, the chair of DMOL does not consider that either party has presented a sufficiently compelling case that the moves should not go ahead. The original decisions will therefore stand."

This means that on 17th October 2012, the HD an Adult channels will move, thus:

HD channels move to 101-120

The "normal" order of channels is restored to HD:

101 BBC One HD; 102 BBC HD [or BBC TWO HD]; 103 ITV1 HD or STV HD; 104 Channel 4 HD; 105S4C Cirlun.

Note that S4C Cirlun is due to close on 1st December 2012, replaced by Channel 4 HD in Wales (see Channel 4 HD will replace S4C HD in Wales on Freeview HD on 1 December 2012 ). BBC ONE HD will have regional versions for Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland in late 2012. BBC TWO HD is planned to replace the BBC HD channel at some point in 2013.

Adult channels move to 171-198

The "adult" channels on Freeview move up from 92-99 to start from 171. Channel 170 and 199 will be "bookend" pages to note the presence of the adult channels for those who flick up and down the channels.

171 Television X; 172 smileTV2, 173 smileTV3, 174 Babestn, 175 PARTY, 176 Blue, 177 Babestn2, 178 Playboy.

The Children's and News channel numbers will move on the Wednesday that follows 16 weeks after LCN 65 is allocated (ie when the General Entertainment genre nears full capacity). In the event that the move date falls during a change freeze then the move would take effect on the Wednesday that follows the end of the change freeze.

News channels move to 131-150

131 BBC NEWS, 132 BBC Parliament, 133 Sky News, 134 Al Jazeera 6-8, 135 Al Jazeera Eng, 136 Russia Today, 137 Community.

Children's move to 121-130

121 CBBC; 122 CBeebies, 123 CITV.

Robert,

Yes I know about the change of channel numbers, but as I said in my original post, retuning (including resetting tuner to 'shipping condition' all that happens is that channels 50,51,52 have been removed, but nothing has been allocated to 101, 102, & 103. They simply do not show up in the EPG. Even if I enter the channel number to change to these channels using the number keys on my remote, it just reports an invalid DVB channel.

Today (23rd) I tried a complete auto setup etc and still no change.

I'm really ticked off over this, I have checked the user manual for my tv but I can find nothing else to rectify this problem.

Has anybody any suggestions to how I can proceed?

Andrew: What you have mentioned regarding your TH-42PZ85B and having been using it to receive HD transmissions I have to say has me rather baffled, because according to the official Panasonic manual for that model the technical specifications indicate that its only fitted with a DVB tuner and NOT a DVB-T2 type and which is absolutely essential for any device to be able to receive HD transmissions, DVB-T types being incapable of responding to an HD transmission albeit that on some devices the signal strength "might" be seen indicated but always accompanied by zero quality.

I feel that should you have been previously receiving HD transmissions then it must have been via your recorder.

Maybe though you could confirm that the model in question is indeed an TH-42PZ85B?

Each time the television is switched on all channels are installed on Freeview, except BBC1 and BBC2, so I have to reinstall Freeview on each occasion. Help

Clive B Hill: Run the automatic tuning scan with the aerial unplugged for the first 50%.

The problem is most likely to do with the fact that when the TV scans the frequencies it starts at low frequency and works upwards. BBC from Winter Hill is the highest of the lot, so if it has found others then these have probably filled its memory. The trick, therefore, is to prevent it from "finding" the signals from other transmitters that you aren't interested in, so as to leave space for the one you are interested in.

Ever since the switchover of HD channels from 50's to 100's we have been unable to receive ITV1, Channel 4, Channel 5, ITV2, Channel 4+1, More 4, E4, ITV+1. Retuned many times to no avail. Checked all cables. Does anyone have any ideas as its rather frustrating!

James: You should carry out a "factory reset" or "default setting" on whatever you are using before carrying out another auto-tune, as dependant of the device being used an ordinary auto-tune does not always completely wipe out the tuners memory.

By the way the alternative to the aforementioned two titles used by some brands is "first time installation".
