You need a "wideband" aerial rather than a high gain one (see all about aerials). Also, if you use a signal booster in the setup, this can cause problems with digital signals.

Can I suggest that you try the following:

1. Check that all the connectors are OK, in particular that there are no stray wires and that both the outer shield and inner wire are connected;

2. If you are using any signal boosters, turn them off;

3. Check to see if you have anything like a VCR connected via a UHF fly lead - sometimes these can changed to use channels such as 68.

4. If you have a wideband aerial, if you can try raising it up an additional metre;

Andy: In the UK, it means nothing. There are no MPEG4/DVB-T services.

MPEG4 provides better pictures at the same bandwidth level as MEPG2, but as having the first digital TV service in the world, UK receivers never have had MPEG4 so there is no point any broadcasts using it.

In the RoI and other places, they use MEPG4 with DVB-T.

In the UK, MPEG4 is used with the DVB-T2 high capacity broadcast system, so this provides lots more bits, and is used for high-definition MPEG4 channels.

I have a problem with my Samsung TV's Freeview.

My dad had recently changed the arial cable connecting to the TV, there was no problem with this and I was able to watch all my channels. However, today when I turned the TV on the screen was black and an on screen noticed said that there was a problem with the connection.
None of my channels worked so I decided to re-tune the channels using the auto tune option. But after the searching was completed
, I only had BBC channels(every BBC channel!). So I decided to tune it again and this time I noticed it only found channels on Channel 45 (frequency-666000KHz Bandwidth:8Mhz).
I can't seem to get the other channels back. Please help :D

I also has sky connected to the same TV.

Jack: The problem you might experience is that of picking up signals from both Moel-Y-Parc (@ 12 mls) as well as Winter Hill (@ approx 52 mls) the latter indicating superior albeit being further away.

I would suggest you try carrying out a factory reset on your TV followed by another auto tune, factory reset on some sets called "first time installation" or "default setting" on others, if this still doesn't give the desired results then manually tuning in of the multiplexes involved will be the only answer, info supplied dependant on reply.

Please also indicate the model of TV involved, and it should also be noted that once channels are captured never carry out a re-tune unless instructed to do on the screen or wherever as all that's achieved is to lose whats already stored, as even although the screen might be blank the channels are still there but just underneath the reception threshold of the TV or box being used.

jb38: Hello, I have tried the factory rest option a couple of times. But each time I'm still only getting the same BBC channels.

Jack: Ch45 is BBC1 from Moel-Y-Parc @ 12 miles away, however I find it a bit strange regarding you not having picked up any the ITV channels, so just to ensure that nothing else is affecting your reception try "manually" tuning in ITV from Moel-Y-Parc on mux channel 49, and if that doesnt work try Winter Hills ITV on mux Ch59, giving an update on the result.

I will say that its always best to try this sort of thing after having re-set the TV as it lets you start afresh and avoids confusion with something already stored.

Jack: Meant to also say, that leave the Sky box in standby whilst you are carrying out any test as its saves any possibility of getting confusing messages appearing on the screen.

Also, and although you might not use this facility anyway, but not have the normal aerial going through the Sky box before going into the TV, always have the aerial going directly into the TV.

jb38: Thank you for helping, I've tried your new advice to search manually on both the channels. However, the TV still doesn't find any channel.

Jack: To be perfectly honest about it I am beginning to suspect that there might be an element of the coincidental attached to this problem having started shortly after your Dad replaced the aerial cable, as its inconceivable that a device will only pick up BBC channels and nothing else, as that could suggest a problem with the actual TV.

The reason I say this is that every channel from Moel-Y-Parc has an offset frequency on it bar BBC1 and the HD service, this being why I wanted you to try ITV Mux Ch59 from Winter Hill as it doesn't have one on that channel, however the fact that you cannot pick up either its maybe just because of your location in relation to it, plus the other factor of it being at a much greater distance away.

The only sure fire way of knowing whether it is the TV at fault or not would be to try another set on the same aerial, if this was at all possible to arrange? but as another test I would like you to check what the actual signal level / quality is showing at on the only channel it has picked up, namely BBC.

Another point I wondered about was whether or not your aerial has an amplifier installed in line between it and the TV? if it does then for a test try by-passing it followed by carrying out another re-tune.

By the way my comment of offsets was made as this can cause problems on some devices, as "some" Samsung's from the near past weren't exactly trouble free.
