If you want to watch different programmes on different TVs, you need a decoder for each.

With satellite, you will also need a "Quad LNB" on the dish, as each satellite decoder requires a separate "LNB" connection for each.

For digital cable and Freeview, the incoming cable can be split and shared.

There are a few options (such as the Pace Twin PVR) that can be used as a decoder for a second room, using only a standard connection for the second TV.

If you simply want to be able to watch the same programme in a second room, this can be done using a standard TV "UHF" cable.

Martin West: You can connect your second TV directly to the dish, you just need a satellite-grade cable to a spare output on the dish and another Freesat box, which start at £30. This will allow you to watch any channel on the other TV.

I have Sky+ on my main tv but just use a loft aerial for terestrial channels in the bedroom. Now that Sandy Heath has made the switch over to digital the bedroom tv no longer picks up channels. Could I buy a "Sky magic eye" to receive from the sky+ box or would the bedroom tv need its own digibox?

Lin - One option would be to buy yourself an SD "Freesat" receiver from Argos for £29.99 and have an extra feed taken from the SKY dish to the bedroom. This would not be expensive and would allow you to have the flexibility of channel choice on the bedroom receiver.

Lin: You would only be able to watch whatever channel was selected on the Sky box. The 'magic eye' carries signals from the bedroom to the Sky box, so you can change the channel on the box, but you can't select one channel on the main TV and a different one in the bedroom, if there's a disagreement over what programme to watch.

To be able to watch different channels in the different locations at the same time, you would either need to get a Freeview box, and use the loft aerial (this may or may not work, and some aerial work might be needed) or as Les Nicol says, get another feed from the dish into the bedroom. Sky offer 'multi-room' installations with another Sky box, if you want to watch subscription channels, or you could go with Freesat for free-to-air channels only.

If you go with Freeview or Freesat, you can of course still use a 'magic eye' as well to watch whatever's on the main Sky box.

Thank you Les Nicol and Mike Dimmick.
I will try a freeview box with existing loft aerial to begin with. I'm trying to do it easiest way possible so am starting with the simplest and working through the ideas you both suggested.

I would like to watch my Btvision in the spare room while the box is in the living room. I've tried some of these infrared magic eye devices and they don't give a great signal and any kind of movement just scrambles the signal.
I have the aerial running through to the spare room and can watch digital, but is there something else I can connect to the aerial so to watch Btvision. Thanks

colin cruickshanks: The cheapest thing to do is to use another Freesat box in the other room and run in a cable from it to one of the spare outputs on the LNB. This will allow you to watch any channel you like on this set, rather than what is just playing on the main TV.

Chris: Yes, you can get SCART-connected wireless video senders. See Argos - www.argos.co.uk
for some examples.

I currently have sky multiroom in one bedroom and have 2 other tvs connected to it through the aerial cable - all tvs show the same channel and station can be changed with use of a magic eye. I have been given a sky+ box and wonder if this would allow me to watch a different channel or free channel same time as my main "multiroom" channel. If so how do I connect this - many thanks (single mum not very good with electronics !!).
