Why does the £23 card not include itv-2 and ftn?
published on UK Free TV

According their press office, ftn is using an pre-existing Sky agreement for transmission and cannot go free-to-air until this is renegotiated.

The Solus card is funded by itv-1, Channel 4 and five; it is not connected with Freeview.

You have to pay extra for itv-1, Channel 4 and five because these broadcasters have decided to pay Sky Subscriptions Ltd to run this service, and this is the charge they have agreed.

itv-1 and five already broadcast from the same satellite as the BBC; they have chosen to encrypt and charge because they use SSL to collect subscription revenue for their existing channels and don't want to compromise their EPG positions.
