Unlike with analogue or Freeview which use ground-based transmitters, satellite systems require a unique connection from each digibox to the satellite dish. If you want more than one digibox (or have a personal video recorder like Sky+ that requires two connection) you will have to upgrade the LNB on the dish to a multiple-output variety (a "quad LNB" as they are known) and have a satellite grade cable run in for each digibox.

kim: No. A YouView box uses these terrestrial (Freeview) system.

If there is a roof-top aerial then where does the coax stop? Has it been cut off outside (as it runs down the wall)?

For satellite there is an on-demand system called "Freesat Freetime":

Hi, I have a picture quality problem.
I have a sky dish connected to my SKY HD Box (2 separate cables) and a separate TV Ariel, also connected to the rear of the sky box using the Ariel in socket (At the moment I have only connected 1 TV to the system, but ultimately, I will be connecting up to 7). I have completely re wired the house using Triax TX100 Cable and would like to use a signal splitter to view either Sky or Freeview channels.
I then have a lead from RF output 2 (9v signal enabled from the sky box) which connects to an 8 way splitter UHF connector (Wolsey LTE IR Pass Distribution Amplifier). I have then taken a lead from one of the 8 outputs from the splitter and have run the cable to the back of the TV .
I also have a magic eye, which is working fine.
The picture quality is 100% when viewed as either a sky signal, using a stand alone HDMI cable linked directly from the Sky Box to the rear of the TV, or via the Ariel, which is connected via the 8 way signal splitter (described above). I have 180 + freeview channels and 40+ radio channels. And have re tuned the TV which has allocated channel 68 on the SKY Box.
My problem is that when I disconnect the HDMI cable (which I ultimately do not wish to use) I can find the SKY Chanlel on my remote, which is tuned to button 1, but the picture has a lot of noise on it. I have tried changing from Digital to Analogue using the remote, but it does not improve matters.
Does anyone have any suggestions? is it possible to re allocate the sky channel 68? It is so frustrating as each component is working individually, but when both aerials run via the splitter, I receive a very poor SKY signal, but Freeview is fine.
My post code is YO233NY and I am tuned to Emley Moor
Thank you

I used to work for a TV company as a personnel manager, so I'm not terribly technical, but I notice many people on here seem to think the active hardware on their roof is an 'ariel'. It is an aerial and 'ariel' is the name of a font used in printing!
Please would people be more careful to use correct UK spelling, etc. The technical people responding here seem very capable and rather polite (no bad thing), but please help them to help you.

linda: "Ariel" is the name of a washing power, "Arial" is the name of a computer font.

Dave Lindsay:
Point taken, my mistake. But the point I was making still stands. Is it because people have not been taught the correct spelling or that they don't care? They should as a simple difference in spelling, as you point out, came change the meaning considerably. I don't use that washing powder by the way.

A simple answer is no. Sky does not work in the same way as Freeview. Sky uses a dish to collect the signals whereas Freeview needs the use of an aerial mounted outside the roof or possibly in your loft and a different set top box to sort it out for you to view.

Hi, I'm in need of help. Just moved into a new house and every room has a aerial outlet but only one will pick up any signal. There is a mounted sky dish which was here before we rented the place and has cables running from it and into our house. Could the sky be wired to the outlets instead of the roof mounted aerial? And how can I change them so they are all running off the aerial? Please can anyone help
