There are several factors that use these boxes to "crash":

  • low quality input signal from the aerial
  • sudden electrical noise (such as from a refrigerator or DIY equipment)
  • failed self-updates

Like all digital computer equipment, the Freeview boxes are all designed to diagnose problems during the period after they are turned on.

If you have equipment that is failing more than you expect, you can use your rights under the "Sale of Goods Act 1974 (as amended)" to demand a working replacement within 12 months of purchase.

Ken: Try disconnecting the Bush from the mains supply for a few minutes before reconnecting it again, as obviously the hard drive has failed to initialise, which unfortunately in many cases is bad news.

charlie : Try disconnecting it from the mains supply for 3 or 4 minutes before powering it up again, however, should this procedure fail to rectify the problem, then I am afraid that your box has developed an internal fault of a nature that can only be described as terminal, that is, unless its still under guarantee?

You should also check that the batteries in the remote control are still OK.

I have had 3 freeview boxes an always the same problem . My library list freezes and I cant go anywhere up or down the list or even switch off. My current recordings are blocked from me because if I scroll more that 10 items in either direction it freezes - so many of my recording cannot be watched.. What can I do to retrieve what I have recorded and stop it happening again?

c fenton: Are the boxes referred to all of the same brand / model number?, as although that mentioned is not exactly unheard of, its nearly always associated with devices of the same brand, software updates (if available) usually rectifying the problem.
