To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

A Sharkey: You've said that your aerial is on the roof, which is a good start. However, I will have to assume that it is pointing to Winter Hill.

Try having the aerial unplugged for the first 50% of the scan (if it gives percentage progress). Or, if it gives UHF channels (21 to 69) as it scans, start it off with the aerial unplugged and plug in when it gets to channel 46.

If this causes any further issues such as missing channels, then use the manual tune function to restore them (if there is such a function):

Pick TV - C49
BBC One - C50

A Sharkey: Worth remembering that when your receiver tunes to Moel-Y-Parc from Wales before finding signals from Winter Hill you will find Channel 4 on button 8 and Granada TV should appear in the 800s of the channel list.

Hi
I had 114 channels on my tv from the mendip transmitter, however tonight I lost BBC 1&2. I have done a retune and the channels have dropped to 50 I have not moved the aerial which is situated in the loft. I have now spent the last hour or so trying a reposition and I have managed 50, 68 and now 86 channels but I can not seem to get back the previous 114 channels. My post code is ba35he, please help as this is very annoying.

Looks like I have lost the majority of the BBC channels on the Caldbeck BBCA Multiplex, can still get BBC1, however that may be as I am Isle of Man based (IM22HT) and get a good signal from Carnaine. Have tried to re-tune but to no avail, are there any issues on this Multilex at all?
