To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Mike Halsall: Since your 1km (!) from the transmitter, I'd start with your signal strength - if its 100% then it needs to come right down - 75% is perfect but you can live with a bit higher.

Obviously bypass any boosters, etc, and then see if its OK - if not then there is a page about this on the site.

So a couple of weeks ago I lost half of my channels due to the new 4g mast. Now I'm unable to tune into any BBC channels.
Returned several times, followed all the advice & nothing. In fact, it's getting worse by the day.
Not happy, bring back analogue.

Claire:
It is hard for anyone on this forum to help without knowing your postcode, or at least one of a nearby shop/Post Office/etc. An indication of what equipment you are using, such as what Freeview box and/or TV set you are using.
Then some here might know whether 4G has even started in your area yet, most have not yet, or if there has been a transmitter adjustment that may mean a retune is needed. It is hard to advise without the requested information.

My problem is I have a whistling, whooshing sound constantly, sometimes its so bad i cant hear the tv. I have unplugged and re set my freeview box but it didn't make any difference there is nothing else plugged into the tv. I also have a freeview box plugged into another tv in another room in the house and that also has a constant background noise although not as bad.

I have had HD terrestrial Freeview for about 1 year. The signal quality/strength for all channels has been 100% solid. The aerial is on our roof.

However, in the last few weeks, the HD BBC1 and BBC2 channels have been low/fluctuating signal quality, occasionally dropping out altogether?

Please can you advise.

Our EPG keeps closing down to a blank screen. Whenever we use Scart to access the EPG guide, it flashes up and then the screen goes blank. We can't watch any of the channels as these too are blank screens. We've tried retuning, without success, and if we check the signal strength then the screen blanks again. Help! I have absolutely no techie knowledge at all (as is obvious) but willing to learn.

Hi, My freeview has been fine up till 2 or 3 weeks ago when we lost ITV, channel 4 and +1, five and all the others on that multiplex. Our aerial is in the loft but the signal is good and we're still getting all the other channels with a good strong signal. Box is SAGEM, postcode is PE15 9PR. I thought it might have been the extra hot weather but it's much cooler today and overcast, so I don't think it's that plus I've never had problem like this before. Can anyone help please?
