To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Helga Crick: Nothing should caused the EPG number listings to vanish, as once that a TV has been tuned the guide numbers are held in a non volatile memory system that does not disappear even when the device is unpowered and nothing can change this except if a retune is carried out.

If this is happening when a scart lead is plugged in to the set (ref: July 20th posting) then the lead must either be faulty (short circuit) or its connected into a device that's activating the scart connectors pin 8 (the switching pin), this changing the TV over to whatever is connected into it.

Maybe you could indicate the brand / model number of both devices involved as this would help clarify the issue.

kirstine selman:

Dave Lindsay - aerial is pointing to (and has been since I moved into the property) the mendip transmitter - I can see that there is an EE mast within .25km of my house now - this problem started in early July - I've not moved anything and it affects the tv with built in freeview plus my set top box. I've complained to at800, they've just come back and said that there is no mast that would interfere with my signal - phah and directed me to another site.

Dave Lindsay - I forgot to say I've lived here for just over 4 years and have not experienced this problem before with such major loss of channels!! Oh and at first when it started happening I put it down to the very nice weather that we were having.

Dave Lindsay - also forgot to say this mainly happens in the evening from 7pm - which is pants for an evening of tv whilst my daughter is in bed. We only have one TV in the house, but I have been resulting to watching catch up tv on my ipad mini - not an ideal situation.

Kirstine Selman: If at800 says there are no 4G signals, then you can rule that out. Instead, what stands out is what you said in your last post:

'forgot to say this mainly happens in the evening from 7pm'

If interference or a particular problem starts/stops at a particular time each day, its a fair bet that it is electrical interference from inside the house, or close by. 7pm sound like the sort of time for boliers/immersion heaters, etc, and if its not your house, than a near neighbour is probably the source.

Hi i live in IP19 8JT. my problem is that my downstairs tv is unable to revive good quality channels on the D3+4 multiplexe. but my upstairs tv is fine. both have built in freeview. the ariel comes into the loft into one of those 1 to 2 white co axil splitters. upstairs goes back outside ,through the wall and straight into back of tv (all new cable.)

Downstairs goes from splitter into cavity, to an unscreened face plate (old cable), which is wrongside of room so around 3m of high quality new co axil cable then into a backset amplifier, then into tv. all over channels have high signal strength and quality.

Am going to fit a screened back plate tonight but does anyone have any more suggestions on how to gain these channels? don't think i will be able to replace old cable as i live in rented house. (sorry about spelling)

Josh R: Your setup sounds...complicated!

Start with the simplest stuff. Replace the nasty white splitter in the roof with something better, such the 2 way male splitter here Online TV Splitters, Amps & Diplexers sales . Cheap, and vastly better than the plastic rubbish. Even better, use F connectors if poss, because they are less likely to come loose.

You have a booster downstairs. First question is - do you need it? Secondly - is it making things worse? and third - why is it there? Check your signal strength - if its too high (close to 100%), then your going to get problems, and since your upstairs seems to be fine without a booster, you might just try bypassing it.

If you do need a booster, then it should be as close to where the signal comes into the house as possible, and logically, if your going to replace the splitter in the roof, why not put the booster there, which is likely to act as a splitter anyway.

Its a rented house, so dont spend lots of money, just keep everything as simple as possible - since its the downstairs thats the problem, I'd work backwards from there.

Mike thanks for the reply.

I have this behind my tv.

Philex Electronic (UK) Ltd. Homepage

It seems to have improved my signal as before no D3+4 channels now breaking up picture and sound (sometimes)

Am i able to buy a Battrey powered boster to act as a splitter in the loft? if yes what one would you recommend? as its rented getting power to a booster in the loft may be a problem.

The current face plate is very old i believe and i think the soldering is cracked could this be the fault? and i hav bought this Labgear Screened Flush Coaxial Socket | Screwfix.com
do you think this will help improve it?
