To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Would you please check what the reported signal strengths are for each of the Sudbury multiplexes. You are 32 km from that transmitter so should e getting a good signal without any need to an amplifier. The channels to check are: 44, 41, 47, 58, 60- and 56. Note that these are the channels used by the transmitter and not the programme numbers.

Ideally you should have a signal strength of between 55% and 85% for normal SD channels and between 65 and 80% for HD channels. If your signals are less than that then it is worth checking all the aerial cabling that you can access and check for any lose connections or frayed wires. If the strength is more than that stated then you have too much signal, in which case do you have an aerial amplifier or a powered distribution unit?

Further advice depending on your feedback.

Hi Mike

We are only receiving the top two rows of the multiplex (TV x 20, Radio x 16, DataOther x 1). Have checked all wiring, position of aerial and all seems to be OK. Have got in the past 100+ radiotv stations so don't know what's gone wrong.

John:

It appears that your are receiving signals from the Clacton Freeview Lite transmitter - which is not ideal for your location. Take a look at Coverage Checker - Detailed View which gives the reception prediction for your location.

You need to have your aerial turned to aim at a bearing of 313 degrees. It is of the correct type to receive the signals from Sudbury, the main transmitter for your area.

Once that has been done, manually tune to the channels stated earlier and avoid channels 41, 49 and 54 as these are the ones from Clacton.

The Ivybridge transmitter seems to have lost all HD channels this morning. Re-tune and they are not there at all. Transmitter status pages show all is well. Digital UK not answering phone. What to do?

Peter: just look at the transmitters page on this site - which says its fine. So...

By the sound of it, your system has gone kaput, and its nothing to do with the transmitter at all.
