To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Hi. Really need some help! I have just done a complete channel re scan on the freeview TVs in our house to update them with some of the "moved" and/or new stations. All the TVs except one are fine. One a relatively new but basic TV has numerous stations now "missing". It is one of two fed from a signal amplifier and was perfect before the re scan. The other TV connected (after the rescan) is fine with all the new/moved stations. I have swapped the arial feed over and re done the scan but numerous stations are still missing and the other TV is fine on the other lead. I have tried again with a new lead with no improvement. I then switched the TV off, disconnected the arial, rescanned to remove stations as suggested, then rescanned again with arial connected. No improvement at all! Any practical ideas gratefully accepted!!!! Thanks in advance and regards John

John Langley: OK - put the other (fine) TV onto that outlet and check signal strength, plus what transmitter its on.

Then swap it over for the other one - if the signal strength is low on both, then its the outlet or the lead. If the transmitter is different, then you need to tune it in to the correct one.

Remember that different TV's have different tuners, and they can be slightly more or less sensitive than each other - a dodgy aerial can make enough difference to lose a mux.

Sharon Downie:

Please give a full post code so that we can determine the reception conditions at your location.

Pixilation can be caused by either too little signal or too much. Check all the cables and connection behind your TV set first to make sure there are no poor or bad connections. Then check what the signal strengths are, they need to be between 60% and 85% - no higher and no lower.

J. Watson: If the problem is only happening at certain times then it's quite likely that you're suffering with electrical interference from something operating on a timer switch, probably something with an electric motor such as a central heating pump.

Following engineering work on the Brighton (Central) transmitter, the sound on BBC1 is out of sync with the picture. SD is fine, but I don't want to watch programs in 'blur-o-vision' as I refer to SD. Anyone any idea if this will be sorted or is it something I have to sort? Rescan channels etc.

Had issues with our local transmitters yesterday. Postcode is BN14FE All HD channels were off for several hours.
When they returned, the audio is out of sync in all HD channels.
I have performed an auto scan, manual scan, factory reset (samsung tv) and retune with aeriel out. Another retune with aerial in. Problem persists. HD channels only, sd channels are audio synced.
I have a osundbar, but have checked tv speakers and problem exists on tv and soundbar.

Any help appreciated.

Bill Kocher & Mez: As your channels are already correctly tuned, retuning will not fix any problem like this. There was a fault affecting HD channels at Whitehawk Hill (and relays such as Brighton Central) yesterday morning, so this is likely to be related, especially as it is being reported to affect multiple viewers (I've seen reports of a similar problem in the same area on another website).
