To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

I have one aerial with feeds to several rooms. I have a Samsung TV in the bedroom which receives all channels with no problem. I have a new Samsung TV, supposedly more advanced, in the Sitting room which, since a retune, only receives the channels that are listed as Freeeview Light. Any ideas how I might get all channels on the new set.?

{Peter Glidden:

How are you feeding the TV sets with the signals from the aerial? Are you using a pssive (unpowered) splitter? Or are you using a powered splitter (with a mains supply)? Also check what signal strengths are being reported by the sets. It needs to be between 60% and 85% for good reception. If it is more then it's too strong. If it's less then it's too weak.

My TV reception over the last two weeks has been horrific. Pixellation, buffering, loss of sound, No Signal messages, No Video messages. I was told that 4G installations were causing this last year and an engineer was sent to my premises. He fitted some sort of gadget, gismo, thingy about six inches from the end of all aerials which connected to the four TVs in my house. Reception was about 85% OK since then but recently it has reverted to appalling. How can this be acceptable? Many two hour dramas have lost the last fifteen minutes, the World Snooker Finals today have been impossible to watch. Regularly-watched series have been missed - some of us do not have recording facilities! As a pensioner, I cannot afford to engage an engineer to visit to access the problems. If I knew it was my equipment, I would pay to have it corrected. If there is nothing wrong - which I am sure must be the case as I have wonderful reception usually - then I will have paid for a call-out and got nothing for my money! Not good, whoever is responsible for this fiasco.

Christine: The most likely explanation is that you have a fault with your aerial system. Have you checked for any loose or damaged cables or connections behind each of your TVs? Have you checked whether any neighbours are suffering with the same problem?

David Hardy: There doesn't seem to be a transmitter under the name Harnham Hill, so please provide a full postcode so we can see your predicted coverage.

Hi, I get freeview from emley moor, we've had no BBC services since Friday night, all other channels appear to be fine. I'm using a Panasonic Vieira tv and a digital stream per, both boxes show no signal on ch 47. Nothing has changed in the house with respect to wiring and equipment configuration, just wondering if there has been any technical changes which could account for this problem.

Thanks

Claire Jones: There are no faults showing for Emley Moor. Have you checked for any loose or damaged cables or connections behind your TV?

I live in a supposedly nice bright green area of the coverage map of the winter hill transmitter. Reality is that reception is sometimes patchy with drop outs and always have been since digital. When I have to retune it means having to manually search to pick up the many missing channels.

What I have problems with is channel 54 that broadcasts at 737.8. My boxes all let me scan at 738.0 and then the requency jumps to the next channel higher or lower. It will NOT let me scan at 737.8 so it shows no signal.

Why does Winter Hill not broadcast C54 at 738.0 then my box and plenty of others no doubt, would be able to pick it up automatically.
