john: If by plugging the cable you say is coming from the loft into the Sky boxes RF2 output socket and this action results in Sky being available in other rooms, then that must be the feed to the other TV's, this also meaning that the TV's in the other rooms must be set on "analogue", as that's what the signal mode is from the Sky boxes modulator.

The only thing missing is where you have the standard aerial fed into? as the normal way of doing things is for it to be connected into the Sky boxes aerial input socket, the digital signal then passing through the Sky box and being joined by the analogue one from the Sky boxes modulator, then both signal modes going onto the sets in the other rooms via your 2 way powered (?) splitter.

If you have already had this working before you moved the equipment then nothing else would need altered, other wise I would had said to check that your Sky boxes modulator isn't clashing with one of the Freeview channels, not being able to advise channel wise as you haven't mentioned your location.

Don't forget to change the other TV's over to their digital mode when scanning!

Magic Eye Problem
I have a sky+HD box and connected to the RF2 output socket is a tvLINK 4 way signal booster. The power supply to the RF socket is ON, and is working. Connected to the booster are TV sets in another 2 locations in the house, these have magic eyes fitted and allow me to control the sky box. I recently changed one of the TV's in one of these locations and now the magic eye at that position wont control the box. I have swapped it back to the old TV and the magic eye still works fine. The LED on the eye is lit as soon as it's connected to the old TV, but when it's connected to the new one, it's not. I've retuned the RF output channel on the box, carried out analogue tuning on the new TV and I get a great picture but still no control from the magic eye. Can anyone suggest what I do next please!

Help needed on how do I wire up sky and digital tv.

I have sky plus and 3 new TV's which can all recieve the digital tv channels.
I want to be able to watch sky in all rooms and use magic eye to switch shy. I also want to be able to use the other tv's to watch digital tv channels whislt my wife watches her shy programs(soaps).

I am happy to update the cables to achieve this.

I know that my RF2 is powered on the Shy plus box

Help by some of you would be very much appreciated.

Alan: Just a little question on your problem, when you say that the LED doesnt light up when connected to the new TV, does that also apply if the set isnt actually switched on?

jb38: The LED doesn't illuminate at all when its connected to the new TV, wether the set is switched on or not. On the old TV the LED is illuminated all the time.

Alan: I would now like you to try swapping this particular eye over with one of the others that you use, this is to eliminate the possibility of this one having a fault that is possibly not showing up on the old TV.

Nothing should really knock the LED out except a plug or cable short circuit, this being the aspect that is somewhat puzzling. I take it that you have checked that when that particular LED goes out the ones in the other room are still on? (question only applies if you are NOT using a separate power supply for the booster)

I did also mean to add to my other posting to see if the LED still went out when the new TV was unplugged completely from everything, leaving only the aerial connection to the eye.

Regarding the magic eyes, what make/model are the ones you are using?

jb38: The signal booster I'm using is a tvLINK T140 and I'm not using a separate power supply for it. The magic eyes are tvLINKS.
I swapped the links over. The 'non working' one worked ok in a different location, LED was showing. The 'proved to be working' one didn't work in the faulty location. The LED didn't illuminate when it was connected to the TV wether the power was on or not. When this one is connected the other links LED's are illuminated.
Do you think I'm dealing with a short circuit situation on the cable/plugs to this partucular location? If that's the case I cant understand why the link works ok when it's connected to the old TV.

Alan: Basically yes, as I suspect that the DC voltage from the Sky box that operates the LED is passing through that particular type of magic eye you are using along with the signal that the TV receives, then is being shorted out by the type of input circuit used in your new TV, in other words it not having a blocking capacitor from the centre pin behind the socket.

Pity you don't have a simple test meter as this could be verified, but "if" this is happening then although not being a 100% accurate test as cable lengths etc can upset the result, but if the magic eye connected to the offending TV isn't illuminated because the TV is shorting the DC supply, then the magic eyes on the other sets should also have gone out at the same time as the one in question.

Magic eyes can be notoriously troublesome, as to be quite honest about it their circuitry is such that they just work and no more at the best of times with the slightest thing upsetting their operation, although this usually involving them not responding to commands etc and not the light gong out except by plug or cable shorts, these two things not really applying in your case.

johnny

1st try rf one then retune

(rf2 might be out)

2nd take the aerial out of the aerial input on the sky box and retune upstairs tv

3rd join the 2 cables behind the box together and see if the pictures return upstairs

might be something wrong with the cable you have installed

have you got a tv link (magic eye) upstairs if you have turned the power on for the rf output is the light on.

Last of all the channel 68 you looked at try moving it down to say 36 it may be over lapping another channel

best of luck
