Heyder: As you have obviously verified that the eyes are working OK plus the fact of having a good strong signal in the kitchen suggesting that your cabling is also OK, then this is inclined to indicate that the problem is either being caused by something connected with the new booster box, or if not is associated with the length of the cable run, that is "if" (as I am still not sure) the Sky boxes RF2 output is being fed through the booster / splitter for distribution into other rooms?

Another point to note being, that although the magic eyes red LED might well be lit (this operating purely on DC) it does not necessarily guarantee that the coded IR return from same is getting back to the Sky box., this in my opinion being the cause of your problem.

However, should the RF2 output be fed through the booster then purely for test purposes remove the RF2 input from the Sky box "on the booster / splitter" and likewise removing the output port connection on the booster that's used to feed the signal down to the kitchen and link both together, in other words the RF2 travels up to the loft then immediately returns to the kitchen without passing through anything, because if the magic eye still fails to operate after having bypassed the amp then that strongly points to the length of the cable run as being responsible.

Even the aforementioned possibility could be checked by (in the loft) connecting the magic eye into the feed that comes up from the Sky boxes RF2 and trying to change channels on the Sky box from the loft, this obviously easier to check if someone is viewing the TV in in the lounge in order to supply verbal feedback, remember though that the eyes output does not require to be coupled into a TV in order to operate as the I.R signal is passing "down" the cable and into the box.

Maybe you could indicate the model number of your new booster / splitter.

The model is "ANTIFERENCE 4 WAY SKY MAGIC EYE REMOTE LINK DIGITAL TV AMPLIFIER BOOSTER A240D" and yes the RF2 output from the sky digibox goes straight into the booster box and out on O/L number 1 to the kitchen TV what I cant get is that it was working when we first set it up and then suddenly stopped. Oh well thanks for your patience, I will try out testing the magic eye straight off the RF2 in cable from the digibox before it goes into the booster box and then try it connected straight into the O/L number 1 of 4 from the booster box and test if no joy I will test each individual link/connection all over again and let you know how it goes. once again thanks for your help

Heyder: Now that its known you are using an A240D booster / splitter then testing the magic eye out in the loft could pose a bit of a problem for you, insomuch that the magic eye's input (from the RF2) is via a female coax connector whereas the cable in the loft from the Sky boxes RF2 socket will be a male "F" connector to match the A240D's input, meaning that you would have to use a female "F" to male coax adaptor, this type of adaptor generally not being readily obtainable from the average TV shop.

However, although this would undeniably have been an ideal test by the fact of it being halfway along the cable run, but when taking the aforementioned into consideration then its maybe best that you try the other test suggested, being to connect the uplink from RF2 straight into downlink that feeds the kitchen magic eye, as although this would still require an adaptor (female "F" back to back) for joining the two male "F" connectors together these "are" readily available from most places that sell "F" connectors for under £1.00.

Another point being, that I did note you had said that the system was working OK prior to the problem having developed, and so there is always the possibility that the problem is actually with the circuitry associated with the "sensitivity" of the boxes IR return as magic eyes can be notoriously troublesome on some installations, but the only way you could verify if this should apply or not in your case would be by trying another Sky box on your system as any type of Sky box would do for the test.

Hi, I've just purchased a magic eye for upstairs, and the remote doesn't work upstairs. The eye works fine by plugging in by sky box and blocking existing infa red sensor. Also picture shows fine upstairs. Please could you help?

Cggraham: If the eye lights up when used upstairs and you are testing the system out using the same Sky remote control as used downstairs then the problem has to be caused by something in the coax link between both area's reducing, or even killing off the low frequency / low output strength control signal sent out by the eye.

This type of problem can be caused by either a long cable run between both area's, an inferior grade of coax being used, or if the coax link runs parallel with cables used for other purposes.

It should also be said that these devices can be very variable in performance, and its not uncommon for some types to have a particularly low output whereby if tested out on a perfectly good installation it will fail to operate through a coax of only around 25 feet or so, and so if the aforementioned reasons given do not apply then you should try using another eye.

Michelle: sorry to inform you you need an io link but they are like hens teeth. You might be able to get one off sky or a local installer or e bay. If it is to feed a compact amplifier you will also need a dc inverter. All this is going to cost you money sorry.

Hi
Have a Sky+HD with main tv currently feeding tvs in 2 other rooms via a PROception amplifier/splitter from the RF2 output.
Up until a couple of months ago everything was fine but now very bad grainy picture on extensions, main tv is fine.
Have checked 'installer'menu several times. Even though this is 'on' not getting 9v at port when checked with a multimeter.
Is it possible to add a power supply to the system to take the place of the RF2@
If so, where would this be positioned?
Would be grateful of any advice. S35 7AB
