I have now lost all signal can you tell me what the problem mig
published on UK Free TV

The problem could be one of:

- the aerial has been moved or damaged;

- the cables or connectors that connect the digibox to the aerial are damaged;

- the digibox has broken.

If you have a "spare" digibox you use this to test the aerial connection. Can you still watch analogue TV OK?

Dan: I write on here as a technical bod rather than a rigger (you wouldn't get me up on a roof!).

I don't think having two aerials combined will work, or if it will then they would have to be set up correctly.

You can end up getting a worse signal because combining ends up with one cancelling the other out (to some degree).

Ideally a dual polarised aerial might be better (I imagine), but how much better I don't know. But then such a thing might not be available.

Rowridge's channels are all Group A, so a Group A aerial (now wideband) is what you want if it's a yagi type. See:

Rowridge Transmitter

I think your best bet is a log periodic which is wideband but doesn't suffer from the drop off in sensitivity on lower channels.

Perhaps one of the other experts can chip in here.

Dan : On having read over what you have said, and especially the idea mentioned to Dave Lindsay of fitting a second vertically polarised aerial onto the mast in order to receive the high powered COM channels from Rowridge, then I would definitely say go ahead with this idea.

However, as far as the second part of your idea is concerned, insomuch of connecting the output from the new aerial along with same from the original into a mast head combiner with both then using one downlead, this type of action is not automatically guaranteed of success due to the possibility of interaction occurring between the aerials receiving the high powered PSB multiplexes, the level of any difficulties that may possibly be experienced dependant on the exact position of the new aerial in relation to the existing original, the wiring used to couple the two aerials into each of their respective combiner ports not being excluded from the equation either.

The policy guaranteed to work, would be to run a second feeder from the new aerial down to wherever the existing one is terminated, then use a two position aerial switch to select which one of the two aerials is required, both operating completely independently of each other.

alan T: A postcode and a description of your TV and others boxes, and the aerial you use would all help.

TV signal from Chatton stopped on Saturday 29th November, have retuned TV on daily basis with no success until the afternoon of Thursday 4th December when all seemed fine but unfortunately there is no signal again this evening, Thursday 4th December. Has the Chatton been working on reduced power or why has the signal disappeared, reappeared then dissappeard again all without any changes to my equipment? Any comments would be appreciated.

Charles Hobbs: There are no reported problems (click on the R & TI link), so its likely to be your system thats got the problem.

Charles Hobbs: I would suggest, like MikeB, that the problem is closer to home.

There are in fact five signals for standard definition and one for high definition. So if you have lost BBC One, ITV, ITV3, Pick, 4Music and BBC One HD then they have all been lost. It's unlikely that something in the signal path, such as a tree, would affect all frequencies in this way. Therefore I would consider connections along the aerial lead. If there is a signal amplifier (booster) then this could be a cause of such a problem. Do not assume that just because the power indicator light is on that it is functioning normally.

Retuning in such a situation is a waste of time and simply compounds the problem because what you are doing is "untuning" the set when in fact the tuning is correct. Therefore it requires repeated retunes which take time in order to see if the signal(s) is/are back whereas had you left it as it was you could have just turned on the set, perhaps replugging leads/ moving cables and observing anything appearing on the screen.

Prior to today (17/12) I had a vast array of Freeview Channels but I now only have the 9 digital channels which are on Mux PSB2 D3+4 on C24. My address is FK1 and as such I should be using the Craigkelly transmitter and should have 13 HD, 50+ ordinary channels and 27 radio stations which is what I previously could access. I have tried retuning several times but to no avail. There don't appear to be any known issues with Craigkelly. Any suggestions?

Wilf Docherty: Are you actually using the Craigkelly transmitter? Or has your system had a fault with a much reduced signal?

Our tv set in the kitchen has lost many itv signals but bbc seem to be ok. Our tv in the living room is showing all usual channels. We have a freeview box on the tv in the kitchen but the freeview is built into the tv in the living room. I have checked leads and can find no problems. I do use an ariel booster. The ariel is outside on the chimney.

Any assistance would be appreciated.
