The problem could be one of:

- the aerial has been moved or damaged;

- the cables or connectors that connect the digibox to the aerial are damaged;

- the digibox has broken.

If you have a "spare" digibox you use this to test the aerial connection. Can you still watch analogue TV OK?

my tv is a bush
i found that what the aerial man was saying too technichal for me..he mentioned bilsdale and pontop pike interfering with each other.or one pulling from the other, and something about multiplex but he couldn't find a solution. he had signal meter on and said it was going up and down. i did another retune this morning and have now lost channel 17..my aerial is on the roof and i had this fitted when i bought the tv 3 years ago..i have another aerial on the roof which was fittted to serve upstairs rooms 1 month ago and that is fine, i get no interference in upstairs rooms. it is mainly bbc channels that are freezing and pixilating

irene: Thanks for the update / explanation.

Your last statement interests me insomuch that "if" your reception is OK on the newer upstairs installation and you can receive the channels on it that you are having trouble with on your main system downstairs, please confirm if this is the case, then there is no reason why this should be happening, as it could suggest that there is a problem with this installation.

The other point I wondered about is do you use a booster on your main aerial? and do you know if your main TV has a manual tuning facility? if you are not sure then please supply the model number of the TV.

Regarding your aerials, if you are able to see them are both of them facing the same direction? if not, is one of them mounted vertically with the elements facing up / down?

Just to give an idea of directions, Pontop Pike is at 295 degrees, Bilsdale 164 degrees and Fenham @ 295 degrees, there is also you local Sunderland transmitter located just over 1 mile away @167 degrees and which is just about in the same direction as Bilsdale, the difference being that Bilsdale's aerial would be horizontally mounted whereas Sunderlands is vertical. I will say that most I am able to see in your area appear to be facing towards Bilsdale, which on the reception predictor does not suggest as being the best for reception, as Pontop Pike is. (in theory!)

Maybe you could update on these points, but the other thing I would like you to try is to carry out a test by taking the upstairs TV down to the living room and see how it performs when connected into the living room's aerial system, and in particular how the BBC channels perform when viewed over at least 15 minutes or so.

thanks for your help and advice...i will have to wait until someone comes to the house to carry out these tests as i live alone and can't do this myself, one thing is...whwen i had the aerial man out the other day.(the same person that fitted the new aerial for upstairs)..he went on the roof to check the other one and he said.it is a good aerial..actually better than the one we fitted and he said everything was ok with it, i now have my channel 17 back but now getting interference on sky news. my house number is 4 with the flat roof if that will help you to see any better on google. thanks for all you help.

irene: OK, I will look out for an update on the points mentioned, and especially the result of the test when the relatively trouble free TV used upstairs is tried out on the downstairs aerial system, as although you say that your TV is a Bush this is just a name tag, and the reason why I requested the model number of the device as this pins it down to a particular model of chassis, some good, but with some others unfortunately not so! Bush in common with many others not actually manufacturing anything.

If it wasn't for you having reported that the upstairs TV is OK using a different aerial then I would have considered that your problem might be one common to the area, but "if" what you have said regarding the reception on the upstairs TV being OK is the case, then its either that your main TV possibly lacks sensitivity or that the aerial it uses is deficient in some way, and with this being irrespective of what the aerial man might have said.

By the way EPG channel17 is on the same transmitter as Sky news, this being why both are affected.

Hi

I lost all my channels after having a problem with the electricity, after switching on the main fuse box, I turn on the TV but there was no sign of any channel, no channel on monolog and no digital channels.

my tv is 7 years old it is digital and has built in freeview.

I switched off the tv for hours and start auto and manual tuning numerous times, but no channels and no signal exists.
I even changed the cable, but no luck.

is it possible that the problem with the power which caused the sudden shut down had damaged the built in freeview?

any help would be appreciated.

alik: Regarding the latter its very unlikely! and regarding the problem, are you on a communal aerial system or is the aerial yours? because if its the former then it could be a distribution amplifier problem.

Referring to the TV, can you access its menu system?

michelle: As your question involves a reception problem then its essential that you provide info regarding your location, this in the from of a post code or one from nearby, e.g: a shop etc.

Another important point being, whether or not your property uses a communal aerial system or one exclusively for your use?
