My Grandfather has cancelled his Sky subscription and doesn't want to keep the box because he finds it too complicated. He has no aerial on his house.
Can he get another free view box (a simpler one?) and connect it to the cable from his Sky dish?

Carmen: You can attach any Freesat box to the satellite connection (or Freesat+ box if you had Sky+).

Freeview boxes won't work with a satellite dish.

Hi,
The new house I moved into has a satellite dish(not sure which one) and a cable with 2 feeds coming from it inside the house. I bought a bush freesat HD. Why do I need 2 feeds ? I m confused which one to connect. Now how do I connect those 2 feeds into one and to freesat. Any help appreciated.

Thank you

Sheebs: You don't connect the two feeds into one; you use one or the other!

A recording device such as Sky+ or Freesat+ requires two feeds so as to be able to receive two different channels simultaneously. The two feeds are identical, so they can be used interchangeably.

Hi guys,

I'm moving to a new property in a couple of weeks and I have arranged for sky to be installed. I am visiting the property tomorrow.
I'm quite sure there is a satellite dish on the property. What signs should I look for if the dish is re-useable?
I would prefer not to change the dish as it means I will need access to 2 neighbors gardens. As I'm new to the street...I'm not sure they will allow it. Im on a 1st floor apartment with the below gardens not being communal.
I'm hoping that the dish can be re-used for sky+ HD.

Thanks

Sukh: Standard satellite dishes can be used on any system used for Sky or Freesat, the only snag that you may find being that if a satellite connection has been installed in the flat then it might only be a single feed, and as Sky + boxes require two inputs another cable would have to be run from the dish, and if the dish is also only fitted with a single output LNB then that would require to be changed at the same time.

In other words, look for two threaded type connectors coming out of a wall plate if twin cables are not seen.

Sukh: Should also have added, that if rather than the usual wall plate you see two coax cables then check the connectors on the end of them, because if they are intended for satellite purposes then the front of the connectors will have the appearance of a hexagonal nut, this being able to turn freely from the body of the connector.

Thanks for the really useful info guys!

I went and had a look today and the dish is ancient! and looks to me that its a single feed. It simply had one socked point that had "sat" written about it.

Good news is that neighbours are fine for the garden to be used! One thing I wanted to ask was in between the dish and the living room, there is a bedroom. Is the engineer likely to need access to a loft? As I'm in a block of flats, I'm not sure I can get access to the loft.

Really appreciate your advice jb38

Sukh: If the dish is located between the two positions mentioned then the engineer will simply run the two feeds along the wall and either drill a hole through it, or alternatively through the extreme side of the window frame (dependant on construction of) to where the box is installed, as the whole idea is to have the cable run as short as possible.

Hi, I have 2 questions please.
Q1. I have a zone 2 sky dish with 1wire coming out of lnb.
I have a sky+ box and am receiving the free channels. If I put a quad lnb and get another cable will I be able to record programmes or do I have to have a sky subscription.
Q2.My neighbour has an old white dish ( undamaged but needs cleaning, is left in garden )roughly 80cm x 70cm with a pole which has 2 lnbs but only 1 wire on it which is cut off. Could I make use of it, if I got another cable and is it possible to connect to the sky box or would I need another box. Neighbour said he used it to watch european channels (sports) years ago.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
