I have split the signal from my satellite dish and now nothing works.
Brian Butterworth published on UK Free TV It is not possible to split the signal from a satellite dish.
If you want more than one signal from the dish, you must connect a quad-LNB and feed a signal from it to each dish

Brian. i am new to this forum but what a depth of knowledge. I think this is an appropriate place to put my query - not seen elswhere but must be quite common:
We moved in July and had new SKY+HD install. Our previous Sky+ sub had been cancelled for 6 months previously (it was a long time in storage!). The old standard def TV was upgraded last month. We still have the old TV, Sky+ box, card and remote. What to do? I would like to install the old TV in a bedroom as an alternative (occasional/kids to watch DVDs) viewing spot but do not want Multiroom. Will the old Sky+ box have any functionality with the old TV (I will still have an active Sky sub in the house)? Will I be able to get FSFS on the old Sky+ box with the redundant card & to get this, will I have to run another cable from the dish - assuming it has a quad output - or is there a way of geting a signal up from the sitting room from the new to the old box? The alternative is to scrap the old Sky+ box and get a TVLink, althogh it has been suggested that I can combile both boxes using a SPC-4 superplus combiner - never heard of it before.
Your ideas would be most welcome.

John Roberts - I know that you've put this to Brian and he will likely offer his view on this as well - There will be two spare outs on the LNB on the dish arm. I reckon your best option (Much more positive than the other options you set out)is to have a feed taken from here to the TV in the kids room, as you say you don't want multiroom from SKY. There is an advatage in this in that if at a later point you upgrade the old TV for an LCD you could then consider a "Freesat" Satellite receiver as an option should the older SKY box fail. Meantime you can obtain a FSFS card from SKY
for £25.00 for this receiver. I am assuming that the TV in the kids room has a scart input that will allow you to connect the SKY receiver to it.

Thanks Les. Sounds sensible. Is this a DIY installation or do I have to get Sky in to do it?
The old card will have been "deactivated". Will it allow any viewing? I am assuming that pause, replay, record functions will not be available on the old box even with a £25 FSFS card and if I want this (unlikely at the moment) the option will be to buy a Freesat+ box.

John Roberts: You can fit your own cables, or use an installer, or Sky if you want to pay the top price.
The £25 card provides Sky3, Fiver and Five USA only. Freesat+/Freesat+HD is the option you need to record/pause/play.

Hi, Got the answer to my previous Q Thanks......... BUT
I have a good quality coax running to an otherwise inaccessible HD sony tv. Freeview reception is poor. I have a dish with Quad LNB currently feeding Panasonic Blu Ray recorder. Can I take an additional feed from LNB, connect to a splitter to utilise the existing cable then seperate at TV end to feed a new Freesat box? I have no way of running the new lead straight through (Floors, built in wardrobes et al)........

Paul Wisniewski: No, you cannot use your existing cable, it is not of the correct type.

I have moved in to a new property. There is an aerial socket in the lounge, coax cable runs from this to a cupboard. There is a line of Coax cable running seperately from the cupboard to the outside wall. Is it possible to set up free sat on this cabling arrangement hope thsi makes sense!

Kevin Smith: You can only use Freesat with a dish and satellite-grade cable.
