How to Reset a Sky Digibox when 'No Signal' appears.

Reset method 1 - Delete and Rescan

  1. Turn the power off at the mains socket. Either do this by pulling the plug from the socket, or using a power switch if there is one.

  2. Remove the viewing card from the machine. Using a dry cloth or kitchen roll, clean the gold connector on the reverse of the card. Do not use any cleaning products.

  3. Check cables and connectors are in good order.
  4. Wait for at least 30 seconds.
  5. With the card still out of the machine, plug the Digibox back into the mains.
  6. Ignore all the messages, and wait for around a minute.
  7. Try 101 for BBC One, 102 for BBC Two and 103 for ITV-1.
  8. Insert viewing card, wait a few seconds.
  9. Check 104 for Channel 4 and 105 for five.

Reset Method 2 - Reset the LNB

If the above method does not work, the LNB may have a fault.
  1. Press the [SERVICES] button and then press [4] [0] [1] then [SELECT]

On Sky HD, press the [SERVICES] button and then press [0] [0] [1] then [SELECT]

Press the buttons in the sequence above exactly - do not atttempt to use [UP] or [DOWN]. Note that when you press the second 0 and 1 nothing happens on the screen until you press the final [SELECT]. This is a "hidden menu".

  2. Then press [1] to go to the RF output menu.
  3. Press [DOWN] three times to highlight the line 22Khz Command and then press [RIGHT] to change the value to [OFF].
  4. Press [DOWN] and [SELECT] to select Save New Settings.
  5. Press [SKY].
  6. Again press [SERVICES], [4], [0], [1], [SELECT]; then [1] again for the LNB Menu. (SERVICES 0 0 1 SELECT for Sky HD).
  7. Now press the [RED] button (reset all settings), then [DOWN] until you can select Save New Settings again.
  8. Press [SKY].

Reset Method 3 - Upgrade the system software

If there are still problems:

  1. Turn the Digibox off at the mains again and remove the viewing card.
  2. Whilst holding down the BACKUP key on the Digibox - NOT ON THE REMOTE - turn the mains power on.
  3. Keep hold of BACKUP until the screen displays a "UPGRADING SYSTEM SOFTWARE" message – this will be white text on a black screen. On some boxes this can appear as a half screen.

  4. Wait 10 to 20 minutes for the software to download and install. The box will restart when the process is complete.
  5. Ignore all the messages, and wait for around a minute.
  6. Try 101 for BBC One, 102 for BBC Two and 103 for ITV-1.
  7. Insert viewing card, wait a few seconds.
  8. Check 104 for Channel 4 and 105 for five.

Now getting 'mini tv unavailable no satellite signal' affecting BBC channels only. I've tried all the solutions proposed but with no luck. Any suggestions, please?

Dave: If you are referring to the instructions seen at the top of this page then this is only really applicable to normal Sky boxes, "Mini TV unavailable etc" is not an indication seen on standard satellite receiving equipment as so what type of device are you using?

The fact that some services are still present shows there is no problem with your dish and probably not with your receiver either, thought there is a slight possibility of a problem.
On my system, new Sky+HD box with 60cm Dish and quad LNB, I get the same issues but merely changing programme often brings back the wanted signals. Else I wait a few minutes and it returns anyway. That suggests a temporary interruption of the received signal, which may be because of the uplink to the satellite being interrupted, the downlink from the satellite being interrupted (possibly by aircraft if you are on/new a flightpath), or even a bird sitting on the arm holding the LNB! One other factor could be excessive rain in the downlink path or covering the input to the LNB, that will give the same effect. You can do nothing about any of those factors.
I have seen this happening for over 24 years since the early Sky analogue satellite broadcasts started. Rain is a known factor as is snow as the signals used are at extremely high frequencies and are susceptible to water absorption effects.

Hi, I've been getting the "your dish isn't getting a signal" for the past few hours.....I've done all your suggestions and still it says that I'm not receiving some channels! I am getting sky sports 3hd, bbc2hd and not getting some I.e sky sports 1&2hd, channel 4, channel 5
Now is this just a dish issue? It was absolutely fine one minute then it changed?
It's a sky+ hd box
I've checked the signal & quality on input 1 & 2, it kept changing to some signal then none on one or the other then said none on both inputs. Currently it's just over 50% on the strength on input 1, input 2 is abit higher & the quality is 90% on both, any suggestions please

For your information when I put it on a channel that I don't get I check the signal status and it's showing up zero on input 1 for strength & quality and null on both the network I.d and transport stream? If that's any information you can use, many thanks

Lee : Its not really possible for anyone to be able to say for certain whether the problem "is" being caused by a faulty LNB or not as a defect in the boxes tuner can also result in a similar range of problems being experienced, and so the quickest way by far of determining which of the two applies is by either trying your box out on someone else's dish or alternatively theirs on yours, because even although you have a Sky+HD box the dishes LNB can still be signal strength / quality tested using an ordinary single input Sky box on each of the input feeds one at a time whilst on the boxes signal check screen, this accessed on a normal Sky box (or white + box) by pressing "Services - 4 - 6".

However, this type of problem can also be caused by water having entered the "F" connector on the dish resulting in intermittent short circuiting of the band switching control voltages sent from the box to the LNB, therefore if you can access the dish it would be prudent to check this out by unscrewing each of the "F" connectors from the LNB "one at a time" by loosening the connectors gland nut sufficiently to enable the connector to be pulled free of the LNB, then further unscrewing the body of the connector from the coax to check for water, this action being taken on both connectors.

That said, I do have to say that in your case I do have doubts if the water contamination referred is the main reason for your problem as you have reported problems on both inputs 1 and 2, this being somewhat unusual, and so as your boxes LNB1 is the main input used for viewing you should concentrate on only using that input to test each of the two feeds from the dish one at a time using your boxes signal check screen, if OK try the reception out on a range of channels.

I realise that you have already tried a few things, but you should also try placing the box in standby for about one minute before disconnecting it from the mains then leaving it for 15 minutes or so to allow the tuners power supply circuitry to cool down before reconnecting it again? because boxes that operate OK for a while before faulting again "after" having carried out this action generally have defective power supplies.

Hi, I've tried my box in another dish and it all worked 100% fine so it must be something to do with the dish?! Thanks will look at the dish or get somebody I know who's familiar with these issues to see if it's easily fixed.

Lee : Pleased that your box "appears" to be OK when tried out on another dish, appears being emphasised when keeping in mind any possibility of that said in the last paragraph of my reply being applicable!

By the way, if when the "F" connectors are unscrewed / checked out no signs of water contamination are found then you should replace the LNB, these in the form of a kit (as used by Sky) being available from a number of e-bay outlets for around £10.00 to £15.00 or so.

Briantist: Lately I have noticed that for some reason or another when a reference is being made to a price of something an A appears in front of a £ sign, an example of seen in my 3.38PM reply to Lee.

I also noticed this in replies made by others such as a posting made by vinny jones on Wednesday 19 February @ 9:22AM.

Is it possible to rectify this problem?
