How to Reset a Sky Digibox when 'No Signal' appears.

Reset method 1 - Delete and Rescan

  1. Turn the power off at the mains socket. Either do this by pulling the plug from the socket, or using a power switch if there is one.

  2. Remove the viewing card from the machine. Using a dry cloth or kitchen roll, clean the gold connector on the reverse of the card. Do not use any cleaning products.

  3. Check cables and connectors are in good order.
  4. Wait for at least 30 seconds.
  5. With the card still out of the machine, plug the Digibox back into the mains.
  6. Ignore all the messages, and wait for around a minute.
  7. Try 101 for BBC One, 102 for BBC Two and 103 for ITV-1.
  8. Insert viewing card, wait a few seconds.
  9. Check 104 for Channel 4 and 105 for five.

Reset Method 2 - Reset the LNB

If the above method does not work, the LNB may have a fault.
  1. Press the [SERVICES] button and then press [4] [0] [1] then [SELECT]

On Sky HD, press the [SERVICES] button and then press [0] [0] [1] then [SELECT]

Press the buttons in the sequence above exactly - do not atttempt to use [UP] or [DOWN]. Note that when you press the second 0 and 1 nothing happens on the screen until you press the final [SELECT]. This is a "hidden menu".

  2. Then press [1] to go to the RF output menu.
  3. Press [DOWN] three times to highlight the line 22Khz Command and then press [RIGHT] to change the value to [OFF].
  4. Press [DOWN] and [SELECT] to select Save New Settings.
  5. Press [SKY].
  6. Again press [SERVICES], [4], [0], [1], [SELECT]; then [1] again for the LNB Menu. (SERVICES 0 0 1 SELECT for Sky HD).
  7. Now press the [RED] button (reset all settings), then [DOWN] until you can select Save New Settings again.
  8. Press [SKY].

Reset Method 3 - Upgrade the system software

If there are still problems:

  1. Turn the Digibox off at the mains again and remove the viewing card.
  2. Whilst holding down the BACKUP key on the Digibox - NOT ON THE REMOTE - turn the mains power on.
  3. Keep hold of BACKUP until the screen displays a "UPGRADING SYSTEM SOFTWARE" message – this will be white text on a black screen. On some boxes this can appear as a half screen.

  4. Wait 10 to 20 minutes for the software to download and install. The box will restart when the process is complete.
  5. Ignore all the messages, and wait for around a minute.
  6. Try 101 for BBC One, 102 for BBC Two and 103 for ITV-1.
  7. Insert viewing card, wait a few seconds.
  8. Check 104 for Channel 4 and 105 for five.

j h gordon: Have you tried resetting the box? if not remove the mains plug then wait about 15 seconds or so before reconnecting same, then after a short delay the box should start to respond to the remote control when you press Sky, if it does let it go through the usual "searching for listings" procedure.

If though it still does not respond to the remote control command, then the box is liable to have developed a fault, the power unit being the usual culprit.

Hi all, I have a Pace 6.3.18 Sky plus receiver that I have set up myself using a signal finder ( good signal strength showing), but no signal at the receiver, the signal test shows no signal strength, no signal quality, no lock, no network id and no transport stream on signal 1, same as signal 2. I have tried a friends receiver and get the same readings, i have redone all the f connectors. i have also reset the LNB and a delete and rescan as described above all to no avail also, I have tried to update the system software, but as i have no signal i dont expect this will work either. Any help most gratefully received. Thanks

Dave: Taking it that all the connections are in order, then I have to say that I suspect that the dish isn't actually on 28.2 but possibly 19.2, as although being nearly 10 degrees apart it is extremely easy to mistake one for the other when using any of these lower priced (under £20.00) signal meters, as although the pointer types can be slightly more accurate over the LED bar versions, even the pointer ones are inaccurate if the pointer is accidentally set too high whilst adjusting the dish.

Much as it might be inconvenient to do so, but I would check the alignment again, and once observing the signal indication on the reconnection of the meter try "very slowly" nudging the dish to the right whilst carefully watching for a dip in the meter, this being why the pointer should be kept low down the scale to show null points up.

By the way there are a few satellites all grouped together, namely 19.2 - 23.5 - 28.2 - 31.5, so it just shows how critical adjustments have to be, another thing that some people do who own small portable LCD sets is to couple them into the RF output socket on the Sky box and use them to view the strength / quality bars on whilst they are adjusting the dish, as the results obtained using this method are virtually as good as using a £250+ more professional type of meter. (portables set to analogue whilst doing so!).

Thanks jb38, The dish was pointing to far to the right, so it was just a case of moving it back to the left a little.

Many Many Thanks

Dave: No problem! and pleased to hear that realigning the dish sorted the problem out, as its extremely easy for even some of the more experienced types to get it wrong when using the type of signal meters referred to.

Hi, until 3 days ago my Sky digibox was working perfectly, we then had a few days of fairly heavy rain (dn't know if this had any effect). Now, I cannot get BBC channels (and some others) but can receive Sky channels (and some others). I have carried out reset 1 to no effect. My neighbour has the same set up and has no problem. Any advice please

Keith Watts: It could be that the rain has got into your signal cables and caused them to short. Another possible reason could be that your dish moved, if the wind was accompanied by rain. I suspect the former option is more likely.

Briantist: Thanks for the words of wisdom, strangely enough all the channels have now returned (the sun is shining!!). Has there been any sort of meteological disturbance in the last few days, I have heard words like inversion bandied around?
Thanks anyway

Frank how do you know that you have good signal at the dish. If you have a cheap signal meter with lights you ciuld be looking at any satellite in the sky and there are a lot up there. There are two very close to astra. My best idea to help you is get a local aerial rigger with a proper meter to line it up for you, or you could keep trying yourself for a few hours give up and then call out the rigger so save yourself a couple of hours messing around and call the rigger.
