How to Reset a Sky Digibox when 'No Signal' appears.

Reset method 1 - Delete and Rescan

  1. Turn the power off at the mains socket. Either do this by pulling the plug from the socket, or using a power switch if there is one.

  2. Remove the viewing card from the machine. Using a dry cloth or kitchen roll, clean the gold connector on the reverse of the card. Do not use any cleaning products.

  3. Check cables and connectors are in good order.
  4. Wait for at least 30 seconds.
  5. With the card still out of the machine, plug the Digibox back into the mains.
  6. Ignore all the messages, and wait for around a minute.
  7. Try 101 for BBC One, 102 for BBC Two and 103 for ITV-1.
  8. Insert viewing card, wait a few seconds.
  9. Check 104 for Channel 4 and 105 for five.

Reset Method 2 - Reset the LNB

If the above method does not work, the LNB may have a fault.
  1. Press the [SERVICES] button and then press [4] [0] [1] then [SELECT]

On Sky HD, press the [SERVICES] button and then press [0] [0] [1] then [SELECT]

Press the buttons in the sequence above exactly - do not atttempt to use [UP] or [DOWN]. Note that when you press the second 0 and 1 nothing happens on the screen until you press the final [SELECT]. This is a "hidden menu".

  2. Then press [1] to go to the RF output menu.
  3. Press [DOWN] three times to highlight the line 22Khz Command and then press [RIGHT] to change the value to [OFF].
  4. Press [DOWN] and [SELECT] to select Save New Settings.
  5. Press [SKY].
  6. Again press [SERVICES], [4], [0], [1], [SELECT]; then [1] again for the LNB Menu. (SERVICES 0 0 1 SELECT for Sky HD).
  7. Now press the [RED] button (reset all settings), then [DOWN] until you can select Save New Settings again.
  8. Press [SKY].

Reset Method 3 - Upgrade the system software

If there are still problems:

  1. Turn the Digibox off at the mains again and remove the viewing card.
  2. Whilst holding down the BACKUP key on the Digibox - NOT ON THE REMOTE - turn the mains power on.
  3. Keep hold of BACKUP until the screen displays a "UPGRADING SYSTEM SOFTWARE" message – this will be white text on a black screen. On some boxes this can appear as a half screen.

  4. Wait 10 to 20 minutes for the software to download and install. The box will restart when the process is complete.
  5. Ignore all the messages, and wait for around a minute.
  6. Try 101 for BBC One, 102 for BBC Two and 103 for ITV-1.
  7. Insert viewing card, wait a few seconds.
  8. Check 104 for Channel 4 and 105 for five.

Mark: I did say that if no difference was noticed by swapping them over then its the boxes (actual box) No2 input that's faulty, but as you "now" notice a change then that indicates that its either the cable to the dish or the connection on the dish end of it that's defective, this requiring the "F" connector plug on the LNB to be unscrewed and checked for corrosion though moisture or general water seepage.

If nothing amiss is seen then its likely the block itself that developed a fault, so if by any chance a quad block is fitted which will have two spare outlets, then the input to the suss LNB port can just be changed over.

Mark: And just to emphasise, your test has proven that its "not" the box at fault, as the problem is definitely caused by one of the things mentioned.

We live in Spain and have had no problems until we bought a quad lnb to replace twin lnb and now we have missing channels. Signal strength is same as before but quality strength lower. It says transport stream 07d4 most of the time but that keeps changing. Also we have a circular 120cm dish and we were sold an oval quad lnb, is this important.

linpat: You may need to slightly realign your dish following the change of the LNB. If you have a satellite signal meter, you can do this yourself, otherwise you might need to get someone in to do it.

al: Unless the time factor mentioned between the "no signal" problem being seen is purely a coincidence, then its inclined to suggest that the boxes power supply is developing a fault when it gets to a certain temperature, as some Sky boxes (particularly older types) can be notorious for power supply faults, and with the low quality signal indication seen being symptomatic of a low voltage just before signal drop out.

It could of course be dish, but I doubt it!

lost most channels from freeview so got sky when they came to install it it came up with no signal ... we got a communal arial in a block of 4 flats they are all using there old sky dishes but as they phrasing them out from the flats we cant have one put up ... it seems as though they havent switched on the ariel or what ever they do on the ariel is a box with a key so maybe that might have something to do but who would have the key and what can we do about it all ... we live in a private rented flat in the block .... eerrrrr ............

Hi
I've tried all of the above and still not signal. this is on our 2nd box in the bedroom. It is'wired' in on the 'spare' connector on the dish I believe. Our downstairs sky+ is working ok so not the dish, could it be the connector on the dish or cable somewhere. As you will see from the comments I am not a professional, we had a tv engineer put the second line in for our spare box ( the one that isn't working)
Any thoughts would be very much appreciated
thank you

Maria: The only test you can try which will give a 100% accurate to where the problem is located is by trying the box with the problem in the Sk+ boxes position using any one of the two "F" plug connectors transferred over from the Sky box, as they are identical to each other.

If the box still doesnt work then its the box at fault, but if it does then its either a cable / "F" connector problem at the box end, or alternatively the connector on the LNB or indeed the port used on the LNB, which wouldn't really be a problem as the LNB should have another outlet thats unused so the connector can be transferred over to it.
