How to Reset a Sky Digibox when 'No Signal' appears.

Reset method 1 - Delete and Rescan

  1. Turn the power off at the mains socket. Either do this by pulling the plug from the socket, or using a power switch if there is one.

  2. Remove the viewing card from the machine. Using a dry cloth or kitchen roll, clean the gold connector on the reverse of the card. Do not use any cleaning products.

  3. Check cables and connectors are in good order.
  4. Wait for at least 30 seconds.
  5. With the card still out of the machine, plug the Digibox back into the mains.
  6. Ignore all the messages, and wait for around a minute.
  7. Try 101 for BBC One, 102 for BBC Two and 103 for ITV-1.
  8. Insert viewing card, wait a few seconds.
  9. Check 104 for Channel 4 and 105 for five.

Reset Method 2 - Reset the LNB

If the above method does not work, the LNB may have a fault.
  1. Press the [SERVICES] button and then press [4] [0] [1] then [SELECT]

On Sky HD, press the [SERVICES] button and then press [0] [0] [1] then [SELECT]

Press the buttons in the sequence above exactly - do not atttempt to use [UP] or [DOWN]. Note that when you press the second 0 and 1 nothing happens on the screen until you press the final [SELECT]. This is a "hidden menu".

  2. Then press [1] to go to the RF output menu.
  3. Press [DOWN] three times to highlight the line 22Khz Command and then press [RIGHT] to change the value to [OFF].
  4. Press [DOWN] and [SELECT] to select Save New Settings.
  5. Press [SKY].
  6. Again press [SERVICES], [4], [0], [1], [SELECT]; then [1] again for the LNB Menu. (SERVICES 0 0 1 SELECT for Sky HD).
  7. Now press the [RED] button (reset all settings), then [DOWN] until you can select Save New Settings again.
  8. Press [SKY].

Reset Method 3 - Upgrade the system software

If there are still problems:

  1. Turn the Digibox off at the mains again and remove the viewing card.
  2. Whilst holding down the BACKUP key on the Digibox - NOT ON THE REMOTE - turn the mains power on.
  3. Keep hold of BACKUP until the screen displays a "UPGRADING SYSTEM SOFTWARE" message – this will be white text on a black screen. On some boxes this can appear as a half screen.

  4. Wait 10 to 20 minutes for the software to download and install. The box will restart when the process is complete.
  5. Ignore all the messages, and wait for around a minute.
  6. Try 101 for BBC One, 102 for BBC Two and 103 for ITV-1.
  7. Insert viewing card, wait a few seconds.
  8. Check 104 for Channel 4 and 105 for five.

emily: Just to add, dont leave the cable on the input that isnt working plugged into the Sky box for long, as should a strand of wire be the cause of your problem there is a danger of you damaging the box by it running into a short circuit for an extended period of time.

Bob: If the box will not receive a signal from the satellite, then the recordings on the box are lost I am afraid. The box requires a working signal for playback functions to be enabled.

ryan: Take the "F" plug off again and carefully check the end of the cable to make sure that a single stand of the braiding mesh hasnt accidentally wrapped itself around the inner core, as its easily done.

Its unusual for someone to remove an "F" plug unless its been wrenched out, which if this has been done will pull the braiding slightly over the insulated part of the inner core.

Anthony: For a variety of reasons you can only accurately compare reception between two satellite devices when using the same channel for the test, although on the face of it what you have done would suggest that the connections are OK.

The only sure fire way of determining if the box referred to is OK or not is by trying it out on the other position, or alternatively if your LNB block has a spare outlet try swapping the problem boxes outlet connection over to it.

First of all though, you should carry out a signal strength quality check on the problem box (services - 4 - 6) and the levels seen should be about 75% for both strength and quality, anything under especially on quality, should be treated with suspicion as to the alignment of the dish.

Also try the same test on the HD box.

Hi there I live in Corfu Greece, I have a sky digital box which allows me to view all channels except BBC. At Christmas I could not view a lot of the channels, I guess its because of the change over & it now requires a retune. Unfortunatly I dont know how to do this, please help.
Many Thanks,

Hi All,

Slightly different issue. Our mother in law was (very kindly) cleaning around by the TV and the Sky+HD box. Later that evening we noticed that we were only getting sound from the sky channels and no signal.

I suspect that the box has been pulled forward on stretched cables and the connection is no longer as good as before. All cables look to be connected correctly, ie HDMI, RF etc...

Any thoughts? I was going to do a reboot in the first instance before unscrewing the Sky cables.

Many thanks
Kieran

Kieran: I would refrain from re-booting the Sky box as I don't feel that's the issue, the aspect I am not fully sure about is by you saying "no signal", are you referring to a Freeview signal from a normal aerial that's possibly going into the TV but being linked through the Sky HD boxes RF1 (or2) output? this because you are possibly using the Sky boxes RF modulator to feed Sky into another room?

If though this doesn't apply then maybe you could further clarify, and in particular regarding the RF, unless that is you are referring to the inputs from the dish.
