How to Reset a Sky Digibox when 'No Signal' appears.

Reset method 1 - Delete and Rescan

  1. Turn the power off at the mains socket. Either do this by pulling the plug from the socket, or using a power switch if there is one.

  2. Remove the viewing card from the machine. Using a dry cloth or kitchen roll, clean the gold connector on the reverse of the card. Do not use any cleaning products.

  3. Check cables and connectors are in good order.
  4. Wait for at least 30 seconds.
  5. With the card still out of the machine, plug the Digibox back into the mains.
  6. Ignore all the messages, and wait for around a minute.
  7. Try 101 for BBC One, 102 for BBC Two and 103 for ITV-1.
  8. Insert viewing card, wait a few seconds.
  9. Check 104 for Channel 4 and 105 for five.

Reset Method 2 - Reset the LNB

If the above method does not work, the LNB may have a fault.
  1. Press the [SERVICES] button and then press [4] [0] [1] then [SELECT]

On Sky HD, press the [SERVICES] button and then press [0] [0] [1] then [SELECT]

Press the buttons in the sequence above exactly - do not atttempt to use [UP] or [DOWN]. Note that when you press the second 0 and 1 nothing happens on the screen until you press the final [SELECT]. This is a "hidden menu".

  2. Then press [1] to go to the RF output menu.
  3. Press [DOWN] three times to highlight the line 22Khz Command and then press [RIGHT] to change the value to [OFF].
  4. Press [DOWN] and [SELECT] to select Save New Settings.
  5. Press [SKY].
  6. Again press [SERVICES], [4], [0], [1], [SELECT]; then [1] again for the LNB Menu. (SERVICES 0 0 1 SELECT for Sky HD).
  7. Now press the [RED] button (reset all settings), then [DOWN] until you can select Save New Settings again.
  8. Press [SKY].

Reset Method 3 - Upgrade the system software

If there are still problems:

  1. Turn the Digibox off at the mains again and remove the viewing card.
  2. Whilst holding down the BACKUP key on the Digibox - NOT ON THE REMOTE - turn the mains power on.
  3. Keep hold of BACKUP until the screen displays a "UPGRADING SYSTEM SOFTWARE" message – this will be white text on a black screen. On some boxes this can appear as a half screen.

  4. Wait 10 to 20 minutes for the software to download and install. The box will restart when the process is complete.
  5. Ignore all the messages, and wait for around a minute.
  6. Try 101 for BBC One, 102 for BBC Two and 103 for ITV-1.
  7. Insert viewing card, wait a few seconds.
  8. Check 104 for Channel 4 and 105 for five.

Martin Warren: Yes, you can also get "Octo" LNB's which as would suggest have 8 output ports

Martin Warren: You can get an octo-LNB.

Don't know whether sexa-LNBs are available.

Martin Warren: Obviously Octo blocks are more expensive devices, but the undermentioned link is for a somewhat less costly version from a "reputable" supplier, although you could also have a search around yourself for any sources than may even be cheaper, the only snag there being that "nasty" might be also be associated with cheap!

Martin Warren: Just realised that you had already replied, anyway the point to beware of when you are fitting an alternative block is that you dont accidentally move the dish out of alignment by pulling on it in any way, as clamp bolts used on the dish might not be as tight as they could be.

Lots of problems recently after a power failure last Thursday. Have followed your advice. Used Reset Method 1 but skipped Reset Method 2 and after an hour of updating gave up on Method 3. Basically my home channels on 101 and 102 do not appear if the sky card is inserted. When I want to watch Sky Sports which I pay, for I insert the card. However I have to take it out and use Reset Method 1 to get channels 101 and 102 and the search in the main menu for my home 101 and 102 channels to get local news.

Peter: Could you please clarify on a point that I am not quite sure about, when you leave the card out do you get the correct regional version of BBC1 on EPG 101 and ITV1 on EPG 103? which of course you cannot really check on properly until local news times, but that these are lost when you insert the card? because if this is what is happening then it could suggest that the card is defective.

Could you also indicate what type of Sky box you are referring to, standard, Sky+ or Sky+ HD?

Hi to you.

I recently moved in to accomodation that still had a sky subscription. This finished about 10 days after I moved in. I was still able to watch the free channels. Sometime later, I purchased a Humax Foxsat HDR box. When I plugged it in, the message came back that no satellite is being freceived. I plugged the Sky+HD box back in and got the same message (Your Sky+HD box isn't getting a satellite signal), code 25. However, sky news channel (501) appears to work perfectly well. I have tried all three reset methods with no success. Any ideas folks? Thanks.

Mike: If this just happened around the same time as you were changing the "F" connector plugs around then it could suggest that a stray strand of wire has accidentally got wrapped around the inner core of the coax, so unscrew the connector from the cable and make sure that all of the braiding is pulled back along the outer cover of the coax, then screw the plug back onto the coax again and give the system a test.

By the way when you select the signal check screen on the box try each cable in turn using LNB1 input for testing, as LNB2 is mainly used for recording purposes.

Hi JB,

Thanks for this advice. I've done all that you say and the system is still not working. I can't understand why channel 501 (Sky News) still works perfectly. As a 'layman' this says to me that Sky have turned something off or done something with the satellite signal to this account?

Cheers, Mike
