Freeview gains ITV Be, Motors TV channels this week - and Spike next year

We have not reached the top with the Freeview line-up as ITV brings a custom channel to the place the UK loves to watch TV.

Last night, channel 26 on Freeview (as well as Freesat 118 and Sky 179) started broadcasting ITV new female-fouced channel ITV Be.

Today, Freeview 71 will see Motors TV free-to-air to the whole of the UK to those homes able to receive the COM7 multiplex Freeview HD extra channels.  It had been on channel 240 as an "IPTV" service for those with the right box and connection.

And Viacom will replace Viva (Freeview 21) with "Spike TV" next year[1].

All this on top of CBS Action being live on Freeview 70, CBS Reality on 66, truTV on 68 (and +1 on 69).

Jay/Peter Webber: Sorry, I took what was in the press release at face value when I wrote origianlly.

Motors TV is on the COM7 multiplex, which means the coverage is limited to the transmitters shown here. Freeview HD extended service from 2014 (com7) | - 12 years of independent, free digital TV advice

That DOES include Tacolneston: however the service is DVB-T2 so you need a Freeview HD receiver to watch it.

I thought the picture quality was good on the screengrab.

Great more channels. But it is not any better quality on the ITV BE. More reality rubbish and lots of that just moved from other channels. Still it will keep housewives and the unemployed more rubbish to watch.

dvb-t2 is more efficient which means com7 can carry more channels both HD and SD.

What will viacom offer , classic TV of the 60's and 70's I wonder - we should be so lucky! No chance of Gold on Freeview or , in areas where two BBC1 ITV1 sub -regions mean Virgin can supply wrong transmitter (i.e. here in Hinckley/Bosworth we get Sutton Coldfield yet 'politically' Leics is in East Midlands so should get - but can't - Waltham so local news items happening in Hinckley/Bosworth can't be seen on Freeview TV in Hinckley/Bosworth. We never asked to split the Midlands in half - Whitehall southerners did that, but we on the artificial 'border' are badly served and were prior to 'Freeview' when the poor signal from Waltham was never receivable , however its ok via a dish and Sky , Virgin cock-up cable by only giving us Waltham NOT Sutton Coldfield and Freeview only Sutton' not Waltham (E.Midlands) surely in this day and age these anomolies could be eliminated so that instead of adding more crapovision (itv be etc) to Freeview the folks in charge first deal with the existing difficulties.

Watlingfen: We know what Viacom will offer as the Spike channel exists already: SPIKE TV Official Website: Check out highlights and full episodes from your favorite SPIKE shows!

I'm not sure if we can help with Virgin here as it's not a free TV service.

Watlingfen: Surely it is one of the advantages of cable if you are able to receive East Midlands news, which local hills make difficult on Freeview. Sky too would normally deliver East Midlands as first choice in Leicestershire.
