Joan Bamborough: If I could just add to Mark Fletchers query, when you say it goes off at midnight are you referring to the programme vanishing or the actual TV itself? as "having to put it back on again" gives the impression of the latter, and should that be the case then do you mean by pressing the "mains on" button on the TV?
If this is whats happening then could you please supply the model number of the TV in question.

Willie: The Film4 signal, known as a multiplex, (which also carries Pick TV and others) is on low power from Sudbury until 27th June. Judging by comments from many people on this website, it is proving troublesome to receive, with many having to go without.
As for why one TV might pick up a signal that another won't even though it is connected to the same aerial, there are two possibilities that spring to mind (assuming no interference local to one and not the other):
1. Sensitivity of equipment is different.
2. The loss along the length of cable from the point that it is split is different.
There is another possibility and that is that the multiplex moved frequency (UHF channel) in November. Check that on the LG it is on ch63 (do this by going to Pick TV on number 11 and bringing up the signal strength screen). It was previously on channel 50.

Willie: The indications you report are inclined to suggest that you are experiencing two different problems, one of something that numerous people suffer from, being difficulty in receiving COM 5/6, but there is no reason whatsoever for not receiving BBC1 unless its because of an excessively strong signal, which is possible dependant on aerial being used as Sudbury is only 12 miles away.
However to simplify things I suggest that you carry out a factory reset (called default setting on some brands) on the LG followed by an auto-tune, as when dealing with any odd problems that occurs on digital equipment its best to start afresh.
If after carrying out the above its still the same, then should it be possible to borrow a set top aerial then purely for a test carry out another factory reset followed by another auto-tune, giving an update on results.

Willie: You might have an overload - see Freeview signals: too much of a good thing is bad for you | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice .

Willie: As Briantist says, an overload is a possibility, particularly as the high-power BBC services are showing as no signal.
Which begs the question, how is the feed from your aerial split? Is it powered (amplified) one (booster)? Is it accessible and is the level of amplification variable and can you turn it right down? Or, as a test, disconnect it completely so that the feed from the aerial goes straight to the TV that you are having issues with.

Unfortunately I am back at work for a couple of days and will only be able to supply some answers next week. I will try the default6 reset before next week and let you know.
Thank you for the information thusfar.

Oxford-Bicester area, Film4 (channel 15) completely gone. I am not really in a position to climb up my roof and change the aerial. Any suggestions what to do? Does complaining help? To whom anyay? It is really a joke to call it "freeview" as we now order DVDs to watch movies we would otherwise have watched on Film4. So not free after all. Not happy.

Gaby: The commercial multiplexes from Oxford are on low power until 18th April so as to avoid interfering with another transmitter that has yet to switch. Until then you will just have to bear with it.
