John Roberts: Does your DVD recorder receive the HD channels on 101-105?

StevensOnln1: I was thinking exactly the same thing! If you have a DVD recorder, its almost certainly just got a SD tuner, not HD, hence its impossible to pick up Talking Pictures.

Has the strength of signal from the Darvel transmitter been reduced in recent months? We were used to getting channel 19 Yesterday all the time with no problem and channel 81 Talking Pictures TV not consistently but often enough to make it worthwhile. Now we cannot get 81 at all, signal too weak and channel 19 has become unavailable sometimes along with the other channels on that frequency. We know there are signal strength problems in our area despite being a in a green area on the map. I am afraid to retune in case we lose 19 and 81 altogether. Is it going to get better? We don't have to install FreeSat!

John Roberts: Signal strength hasn't been reduced on Darvel or any other transmitter. It's likely that your aerial system is degrading and you are receiving less signal as a result. Please provide a postcode so we can see the signal prediction for your exact location.

MikeB: I am in Manchester and watch Freeview on my upstairs television and Freesat downstairs. On Freeview I can get Talking Pictures TV for several hours in the afternoon until the channel is taken over by a local Manchester channel. I can't get it at all on Freesat, and have tried several times turning the box off and leaving it off overnight. Any suggestions? My Freesat box is a cheap Bush one and I can't find the manual. I do not have HD television.

Alan Cadwallender: I have no idea why you can only get the channel for a while in the afternoon (I'll leave that for someone else to sort out), but Talking Pictures is available on 306, if you look at the link in your post.

If you can get Talking Pictures at all, then your TV must at least have an HD tuner, so you do have an HD TV.

Alan Cadwallender: Some of the local TV channels simulcast programs from Talking Pictures during the day, which is what you are seeing on the local channel, rather than the Talking Pictures channel itself.

phil: If you mean that you have a Humax DVB-T2 box then you have a suitable receiver and should be able to receive Talking Pictures from Belmont with your existing aerial, however the COM7 multiplex which carries Talking Pictures is broadcast at much lower power than the main PSB and commercial channels. If you provide a full postcode we can see what reception should be like at your location and offer more specific advice.
