MikeB I tried IE 10 and 11 and the problem persisted within my email programme.

I had a look at Thunderbird as it seems to be updated regularly but with that when you try to read a link in an email it just opens it in your default browser which rather defeats the object of having an inbuilt viewer like I have with my pop3 programme. But it did give me an idea.

Instead of trying to read the links in Brians emails directly in my mailer if instead I right click on the link I get the option to open in it another window and if I do that they open in Pale Moon which is my default browser so I think that's the way to go for me rather than get frustrated with Brians new format.

It's all very odd as I subscribe to various html email alerts and my email programme deals with them perfectly and it's just Brians that don't work.

I guess it's just an odd quirk that will never be explained but anyway I do appreciate Brians efforts with this site so I can put up with a little bit of hassle with the emails from time to time (smile.)

Job done as far as I'm concerned.

Brian,

Under the new system where is the option to find your local transmitter by postcode which used to be on the top right of the screen previously? I can't find it anymore.

Is it in the Extras settings? Again I can't see this if I hit the icon at the top right of the screen. I just see a blank page with the url: https://ukfree.tv/extr…ngs. I've tried Firefox, GoogleChrome and Opera (all latest releases) and they all give me a blank screen.

This new look is too chunky for my aliking but then I'm using a desktop and laptop with Windows 7 and no mobile device. I'd prefer the old look personally.

Cheers...Colin

Brian,

Thanks for the info on how to find the postcode section again.

After playing around with the Menu it seems to me that you've copied the Windows 8 menu in many ways and I think most people who use desktops/laptops have found the W8 way of doing things very awkward unless some sort of start menu is added to the setup. W8 maybe fine for mobiles but is poor for conventional machines.

You said that the Extras/Settings section isn't ready yet to go live (and incidentally now when I hit that Hamburger button I get the Postcode page and not a blank page as before) so would it be possible to have an option in Settings where the user can switch from what I'm calling the W8 look to the more conventional old look that we had in the past and that way mobile and laptop etc users will get the most benefit from the site.

As things are I find navigating the site to be much more complicated than it was before (as MikeB seem to find as well) so something to help out the desktop/laptop users would be most welcomed.

Cheers...Colin

Nigel Gout I can confim engineering problems with Rowridge this week.

I've had several stations drop out for a few minutes but they've always come back and I'm sure this is what you're experiencing with Quest.

If I were you and you haven't got it back yet try a retune around midnight and everything should turn out fine. You'll even find two new stations on COM8, not that they're worth having!

Actually if Graham Scott's aerial is Vertically polarized as he says then he won't get any channels on COM7 as it's Horizontal polarization only.

That's his problem I would guess.

kim: I like you live in Eastleigh and am not having any problems with COM4 or the other Muxes.

If you're not receiving it but are getting everything else it sounds like a re-tune of your tv/box might get you fully running.

Hope it helps.

I live in Eastleigh and haven't noticed any disruption to COM5 all week. I tend to watch Sky news during lunctimes and evenings and Movies4Men some evenings and both have been rock solid for me.

I have a horizontaly polarised aerial, but that shoudn't make any difference bearing in mind my distance from the transmitter.

Digital UK are reporting possible disruption to signal which may be the problem here but I think it's more likely to be the high pressure in the south which will interfere with some and not others (like me in this instance.)

NOTE FOR BRIAN: you are listing the output power of some of the Vertically Polarised Muxes as 50,000W whereas THEY SHOULD ALL be 200,000W. I've only just noticed it now otherwise I would have pointed it out before.

I've just done my retune and can't get any signal from Channel 56 (COM8.)

My aerial is four years old (installed May 2014 complete with new cable.) Its a Yagi 18 element as far as I can make out which I believe to be a wide band type and should pick up the complete tv transmission spectrum. So I can't understand why COM8 is dead for me.

Can anyone confirm if COM8 is alive on Rowridge please?

If it is transmitting I'll have to get an engineer out and see what's up.

Cheers...Colin

StevensOnln1: As far as I know Yagi's were always wideband, weren't they? I've never heard of a Grouped Yagi anyway. How might I tell the difference, any idea?

It's mounted horizontally and COM8 even at it's low power would give 100% quality/78% power when I could receive it.

I'm located in the SO50 5PS area, a good thirty miles from the transmitter, but never the less the aerial has served me well since it's been up.

You've got me worried about a Grouped Yagi, I'm not sure what to think.

Thanks for the response.

StevensOnln1: With the help of binoculars I've managed to determine a black tip on the end (the opposite end to where the reflector is.)

I think black means wideband (and I know red is Group A as that was on the antenna I had previously.)

So I'm pretty confident the Yagi is a widebander and should pick up channel 56, which it doesn't.

I tried calling the installer for confirmation but he's on holiday till April 3rd.

I'm now thinking about dumping Freeview for the Sky FreeSat platform IF the aerial has to be changed again, but will wait till I've spoken to the installer as he is a good, honest chap.
