Rowridge (Isle Of Wight, England) transmitter

I continually have problems with BBC4 HD reception from Rowridge, presumably because COM7 is broadcast at half the power of other channels. It seems pointless for BBC to take great care with the production values of wildlife films and dramas and then compromise at the transmitter.

Tony Hill: Understood, but I find that Freesat is subject to adverse weather conditions, and the BBC iPlayer picture does not really compare with an HD broadcast. I will see what Ofcom have to say about disadvantaging a PBS broadcaster that we have to pay for.

Tony Hill: Please make a complaint to the BBC about low power on COM7 from Rowridge, as I have. I had a reply about choices having to be made about broadcast power, but it seems daft for high quality programmes on BBC4 HD to be compromised like this, so if more people complain it might eventually change things.

MikeB: I set my Samsung TV to default to my Humax box because:
a. I watch recorded programmes when it suits me in HD in better quality than BBC iPlayer, All4, etc
b. The Humax changes channels more quickly than the Samsung
C. The Humax information panel is much clearer than the murky offering from Samsung.
Otherwise I'm happy with the Samsung which pops up a little 'Watch in HD' banner if it is showing an alternative SD programme, is after the local news.

Message on screen to rescan for BBC Four HD from Rowridge transmitter - frequency changing.

Problems from Rowridge in the Eastleigh area (SO50) with 106 (BBC Four HD) and 205 since the change in frequency and rescan on 18 January. Stations missing or breaking up, no information from BBC, Freeview blaming domestic equipment as usual despite good signal on all other channels, no response from Arquiva so far. Annoying attitude to fee-paying customers.

StevensOnln1: Checked connections, aerial direction, rescanned TV and PVR but no COM7 found so no signal on BBC4 HD. Previously before the recent frequency change it was 100% signal quality, 50% signal strength (due to low broadcast power), other stations 70%. Postal code SO50 4SA, in the middle of good signal all zone for Rowridge.

115 not received. I will write to Ofcom about this incessant meddling with frequencies - what is the point in the BBC making dramas and wildlife films with high production values and then broadcasting them at a miserable 18kW?

StevensOnln1: So who does make decisions on changing frequencies, channels and broadcast power with so little publicity and reference to fee-paying customers? I've had a standard response from Freeview, nothing yet from Arqiva or Digital UK. After some research I've got a group T aerial on order to extend reception up to channel 60.

StevensOnln1: Where was it publicised? I didn't see any information or advice and presumably neither did the people on this thread. I have now seen that there is another change in channels due on 21 March at Rowridge - will this cause similar inconvenience or loss of stations?
