Briantist: Sony offer firmware upgrades and updates via their website. Is the type of upgrade needed to deal with the 1080p issue capable of being delivered via internet/USB or are you are saying it can only be done as an off-air download?

Why can't they remove the red button / channel 301 instead?

Briantist: That is a novel solution. Could they compromise and do audio with a text image stating the date, topic of debate and who is speaking at the time?

Michael: look back though the thread. The HD multiplex is a temporary signal operating at 10 kilowatts from an aerial further down the transmitter mast. If you have driven along the M8 recently, you should have noticed a brand new transmitter alongside the existing one. On 22 June the HD signal will move to the new transmitter at a staggering 100 thousand watts* so your reception should improve then. Just be patient.

* Note: use of the word 'staggering' is poetic licence as it is not as simple as saying that the signal is 10 times stronger. I have been corrected on this point (10 dB increase).

Given the Ofcom report about 4G on channels 61 and above, can those using this transmitter expect problems with interference.

I have a non-standard arrangement with two aerials - one at the front of the flat pointing towards Blackhill and one at the back of the flat pointing towards Glasgow West Central for my kitchen TV. I am just wondering if I would be better splitting the downlead on the main aerial to feed both sets. I was advised against this before because of the low strength of the digital signal at that time but could I get away with it now? I want to avoid an aerial amplifier.

Briantist: Thanks. It looks like keeping one aerial for each set but reorienting the aerial at the rear towards the main Blackhill transmitter would be the best approach.

Okay, G12 9TZ. We have a choice of Blackhill or Glasgow West Central. Until Wednesday only Blackhill carries digital.

Thanks. A bit sooner than next year though. Switchover starts on Wednesday. We are all getting very excited here. AIUI Darvel has completed.

Briantist: Sorry, I don't follow that. Darvel dates were 11 May 2011 for stage one and 25 May 2011 for stage two.
