Happy new year...

Happy new year to you Braintist! :)

My terrestrial TV service comes from Belmont transmitter which switches off analog in August, so this year's summer will definitely be something to look forward to!

Denis: What was considered High Definition television in 1936 isn't now, and besides I bet in say 30 years from now 1080i HD will be considered standard definition, and we will be discussing a lot about ultra HD like we discuss things about HD at present.

I was told one of the reasons why some broadcasters launch "+1" duplicates of their channels is just to get more advertising revenue. Wouldn't they get the same advertising revenue by launching HD simulcasts of their channels?

How to cut back your TV subscription

I have read on the Digital Spy forums that some people have plugged in TVs with built in DVB-C to a cable feed, and they managed to get all of the BBC channels, C4 & 5 FTA.

I know it would strictly speaking be breach of Virgin Media's terms and conditions to do that, but I suppose as long as you are only recieving FTA channels, you wouldn't be breaking the law.

How to cut back your TV subscription

Briantist: I've just tried it with my Samsung plasma TV which happens to have a DVB-C tuner built in, and I got all the BBC channels, (apart from HD), CITV, C4 & 5 and a channel that is actually a message warning me that I am using non-standard equipment. I am in the North Lincolnshire region BTW.

OK then, what about having some new channels albeit in SD from companies like CBS like Horror Channel and CBS Drama etc? Do you think that would be a good idea if CBS was willing to have the channels on Freeview if there was the space to?

Channel 4 HD to start on Freesat | Freesat
Wednesday 2 February 2011 2:48PM

Yes, finally!!

Now Freesat will equal to Freeview HD in terms of HD channels.

Whatsmore, I guess those who can't get a decent Freeview signal now won't need a Sky+ HD box with FTV card!

Since Channel 4 HD uses DVB-S2 whilst currently on Astra 2a in it's encrypted form, will it be downgraded to DVB-S once on Astra 2D FTA? Or will there be some changes to Astra 2D so that Channel 4 HD can still be DVB-S2? I mean, offical Freesat boxes are supposed to support DVB-S2 right?

So will it stay as DVB-S2 on 2D do you think?

Does Windows 7 actually support DVB-S2 the same as it does DVB-S?

Also I know, nothing to do with C4 HD but, why is it BBC HD has had to share a transponder with BBC One SD since it launched in 2006? Why couldn't it have got it's own transponder so that it could use DVB-S2?
