Terry: Probably because they haven't retuned? Does GOLD comes up on channel 20?

Had a perfectly fine Freeview 26" CRT that for about 5 years until recently - but decided now was a good time for a bigger and better TV with built-in Freeview HD and Smart features. Went for the Samsung UE40ES5500, excellent HD picture and great for connecting up to the PC or PS3 and totally future proofed! :)

Mo : Could be many reasons why, but if both TVs are connected to the same aerial and the other one is ok, that rules out the aerial or transmitter - and means it's likely to be either the TV or connections.

You could try swapping the TVs over (if possible) to see if happens with the other aerial connection, if so it's likely a problem with the TV and you may need to contact the manufacturer.

Mary: If your mother has the West regional news, then she is picking it up from the Marlborough relay transmitter to the east of the town.

If you are getting the South regional news, that's from the Hannington transmitter, which has all of the Freeview channels - but
the town is on the edge of reception of Hannington (hence why there is a relay transmitter).

I would suggest removing the booster and ensuring the aerial is pointing towards the Marlborough transmitter, and retuning. What kind of signal strength does the TV indicate normally?

matt: What happens if you go to the signal information screen when on an HD channel? What is the strength/bit error level?

jb: Had the same situation with a new Samsung (ES5500) recently, everything including HD channels ok on set top aerial, but less reliable on loft aerial (Craigkelly is on the hill above us!).

Though the loft aerial is fine on a Sharp TV, and was normally fine on the Samsung except the HD and Arq A mux, strange.

Thomas Fuller: If you had equipment fitted by the BBC Help scheme then you should phone them (0800 40 85 900) as you have a 12 month after care service - they should send someone out if they can't rectify it over the phone.

ron brown: Your switchover was in September last year - have you had problems since then?

Can I assume you've had a qualified aerial installer/engineer out to check on this problem? And with all of your neighbours also having problems, you have got in touch with the BBC (via http://www.radioandtvhelp…uk)?

And I do hope you realise there's no such thing as a digital aerial...

Martin H: The Stockland Hill transmitter has all of the Freeview channels and covers some of Exeter - did the postcode checker indicate that you'd be able to receive a signal from there?

A very cross person!:
"when none of us had any problems with signals before the switch"

Tell that to the people who didn't get digital TV because either the main transmitter didn't have enough power or their local relay transmitter wasn't broadcasting digital until the switchover.

Unless you live in Tyne Tees or Northern Ireland, then are you seriously saying you've not had TV for 6 months? Does anyone else in the flat have TV (that is not through satellite or cable)?

As Dave Lindsay says the requirement for an aerial did not change at the switchover - just the TV receiving equipment needed to be able to handle the digital signals.

richard mcneill: No problems reported on Digital UK or the BBC website - if all of your boxes are having problems I would check with your neighbours, and if they are ok then it's likely to be a problem with your aerial or connections.
