Alan Smith: The TV licence pays for the BBC channels, and since every transmitter carries the BBC channels, why should you get a discount?

Dave: In case you were unaware, everyone on this site has the same information as you, namely the R+T reports Radio & Television Service - in fact, if you are tuned in to the Ventnor relay you will be the first person to notice the channels coming back!

Also, since you have the internet, you should be able to either watch BBC1 live online or later on the iPlayer...

Howell Edwards: Ah so now we're at the crux of the matter - you are having trouble with your Freeview reception, and according to you, it MUST be something to do with the transmitter! I must ask, how were you able to "virtually quarantee (sic)" that the problem is with the transmitter?

Freeview more valued than most other "British institutions" | Freeview news | ukfree.tv - 11 years of independent, free digital TV advice

My grandparents have no problems at all with Freeview and like the fact that there's lots of new channels for them to watch. If people are having problems then generally as MikeB says, it's more likely to be at your end than the transmitter.

Andy: If fog was a problem for Freeview transmissions, you'd have a lot of complaints on here from people in the Edinburgh and Fife area as the Craigkelly transmitter has been shrouded in mist and fog several times in the past week.

I'd suggest you check with any neighbours using Freeview to see if they are also having problems.

Garymma : If you have never been able to the channels, please post the make and model of your TV. If you have had the HD channels in the past, try manually tuning in UHF channel 42 in DVB-T2 mode.

Bob F: Your TV does not have the required Freeview HD / DVB-T2 tuner. See the "Tuning" section of 40" L1333 Full High Definition LED TV - Toshiba - it only has DVB-T.

You'd have thought that the TV repair man would've reported it to the BBC/Digital UK after a few days of people coming in with the same problem...
