Oxford

Since the Oxford switchover (I'm at OX44 7TP), my Freecom DVB-T USB Stick no longer tunes into Mux 2 (ITV, C4 etc). This was on an XP SP3 desktop using an amplified portable aerial that works fine with a Freeview box. I've been in touch with Freecom support, and got TotalMedia 3 and the latest drivers.

I know you will say the aerial won't work, but it also won't tune on my XP SP3 laptop via the rooftop aerial that gives a full strength signal on Mux 2 on the TV. This is with both TM3 and MCE. I've tried turning off wireless on my wi-fi router, as well as the wireless mouse on my desktop in case that caused interference on Mux 2.

I understand the way Mux 2 is transmitted makes it more prone to interference, but it looks to me like the hardware is incompatible. Freecom are no longer actively supporting the DVB-T USB Stick.

Any other ideas welcome thanks.

Thanks Briantist, I was beginning to come to that conclusion. My laptop and desktop aren't really up to running Win7. Might try another cheapo USB stick till I can afford to get a new PC.

Thanks, I may try upgrading the laptop to Win7, as it was designed to run with Vista when it was delayed, so shipped with XP. I won't bother trying another USB stick.

I'm down on the south coast this weekend, and tried tuning the laptop to the Rowridge transmitter via a good in-roof aerial. It got the ITV Mux OK, but the BBC 1 Mux went awol this time!

That's strange, I wonder why it didn't pick up the BBC1 Mux? I've pretty much given up on it, as neither of my PCs are worth upgrading to Win 7 (the laptop could be, but it's a Sony Vaio, and it looks like driver problems are likely to ensue.).

Minor site design issue. The hamburger menu symbol in the top strip looks part of the site logo, and took me a while to find to navigate the site. If it was bigger and separated a bit from the logo, it might be clearer.

Thanks for the added 'Menu' text in the top bar Brian, all is clear now.

I recently started getting interference on BBC SD channels from the Oxford transmitter on my venerable (12 years old) Panasonic TH-37PE30B plasma. It was shallow diagonal repeating coloured patterns, lasted a few seconds, then it sorted itself out. I re-tuned, the same. I thought it couldn't be the signal, as BBC was fine on the Freeview and YouView box from the same aerial feed. I was convinced it was a tuner fault, and have ordered a used board for 15. Sod's Law, in the last couple of days, it's fine again! Anyone know of any transmitter work recently that could have caused it? I checked here at the time, and no reported problems. The signal strength was a good 9/10, though the TV is at the end of the aerial line. I haven't changed anything in the setup that could have caused it. I guess it could still be the tuner failing, so will probably hang on to the new board when it arrives. Interestingly, someone else on the AV Forums just had the same problem on the 42" version, which uses the same tuner I believe.

Thanks for the updates (and the 23 emails ;-)

The TV mapping view doesn't seem to be working for Stadhampton (51.6885N -1.134E) in the latest Firefox on W10. There's no green area shown initially, and if you try to click on the bouncing Oxford icon, it doesn't work. It does if you click on the static Hannington transmitter. Clicking on the static Oxford then still doesn't work.

Reading the Which article, it says you will still be prompted to download the individual catch-up apps from the different channels, which makes me wonder what the point of it is, other than providing a unified front end?
