... I have a radio with DAB and FM... I have found that I cannot listen to DAB broadcasts for more than a few minutes as the sound irritates with its cold, digital sterility... FM is warmer, richer and way more natural for voice and music. So presumably if the better listening experience is getting booted in to touch we'll be without BBC's Radio 2, 3 & 4?

Hi Briantist... thanks for the reply but it's not acclimatisation! I think that all things being equal with good reception on DAB and FM, FM is a better quality listen by far.

... psycho-acoustic algorythms... highly digitaly compressed FSK DAB broadcasts... audible artifacts... flat lifeless and clinical sounding DAB audio sound... now that's what my ears tell me whenever I hear a DAB broadcast! Side by side and all things being equal I've no doubt that FM is a better quality listening experience!

Brian... when contributors to your site expressed an informed preference for FM audio over DAB you placed them in to a "disillusioned DAB folder" or something similar... shouldn't the above posting be removed by now? Despite your actions... still like your site...

In Ivybridge we do get Gay Rabbit and Rabbit but we don't get stations like Film Four?!!! mmmmmmmm? Why's that? Don't understand this cost thing... Ivybridge has been the fastest expanding town in Europe yet we only receive Freeview Lite for the same price as other parts of the country receiving the full Freeview service..... no explanation will satisfy as it won't make sense.

Hi KMJ... many thanks for your kind, considered and informative response which is sensible but I still find the whole business does not make sense. I understand what you are saying but there is essentially something very undemocratic and unjust about what is going on here... think beyond MUX and COM and all that... why when we pay the same as the rest of the country do we get a "budget" service... I realise there are many other areas that only receive Freeview Lite...it was always initially advertised as just Freeview... no mention of Lite? I'll just have to wait until November when the trees opposite have shed their leaves and our satellite signal comes through again...!

Brian... a year or so ago when I dared suggest that FM far outstrips DAB in sound quality you put mine and some other posts in to some forum that you entitled 'Deluded listeners' or something similar... I don't remember exactly. I thought at the time your actions were way out of line.

I like this site... it's extremely helpful and informative and now once again we have some very relevant posts expressing concerns over DAB and its 'quality' compared with FM.

Trevor and Russ express concerns about the whole DAB business but you seem inflexible in your replies in that you will not even attempt to understand why people are concerned.

There is absolutely no doubt that FM far outstrips DAB as a listening experience... if it just boils down to 'choice'... well that's another matter as Mr Murdoch will tell you.

'Science' may be able to 'show' that there is extra clarity and detail in a DAB broadcast but if you really listen and listen to what your ears tell you FM is simply far superior. One can publish all the technosnore information about DAB they wish but there's currently nothing better than FM.
