Chris.SE: Thanks again. So, given that an iplayer stream is 5Mbps, we have 5Gbps per 1000 and 5Tbps per million - the engines won't stand it captain! Well, maybe a million, but 20 million?
Searching for "BBC multicast" brought me to an interesting page:
"Multicast streaming
By combining multicast distribution to edge caches with unicast distribution downstream we are also able to support the large installed base of standards-based unicast media players. And using this hybrid model we can even support product features such as "live restart" in a scalable manner."

Presumably "live restart" is what we've been discussing. I'm not sure what "in a scalable manner" means.

The BBC changed the way their EPG was produced in the last year or so.
The lack of HD Simulcast Event Linkage descriptors was one notable change.
Recently, these have been reintroduced, though not yet implemented for some channels.
For Freeview, the channels that now have HD Simulcast Event Linkages are:
BBC FOUR, BBC ONE, BBC TWO, CBeebies and Channel 5.
For Freesat, the channels that now have HD Simulcast Event Linkages are:
BBC FOUR, BBC ONE, BBC TWO, CBeebies, ITV, STV and UTV.

More BBC EPG Blunders:
All the HD Simulcast Event Linkage addresses for BBC FOUR and CBeebies are wrong.
They are wrong because they point to com7 instead of com8.
As everyone knows, the TSID of com7 is A000 and the TSID of com8 is B000.

Interactive streams could only be accessed via HbbTV - a newer standard adopted by the BBC. This fits in with a wider BBC-led move to withdraw from MHEG in favour of HbbTV."

"Firstly I would like to apologise about the delay in our response this is due to a high influx of emails, we are working our hardest to clear any backlog of emails.
I have had a look in to this for you and with LG's TVs these support HbbTV format channels where as most of them are in MHEG format. LG were advised that by January 2018 that all the services would be updated to support both formats but this appears to have not been done. So the issue is that the format the channel is in is not supported by the LG TVs. I am sorry for this and y any frustration that this may of caused you.
The best thing that we can suggest in this case, as this is down to the channel providers, would be speaking to them directly to have this resolved for you. Again, I am sorry for the frustration that this has caused but if you do find that you have any other queries please let me know.

As above, according to the LG Electronics UK Help desk, LG do not support MHEG on their latest TVs because they were advised that by January 2018 all the services would be updated to support the newer HbbTV standard.
At present, none of the following services work because updates to provide HbbTV compatibility haven't happened:

Note: NOW 90s has a service type 01 "digital television service" instead of type 12 "data broadcast service" as it is transmitted as a normal Freeview channel for two hours a day.
Upon selecting any of the above services, the viewer is presented with a screensaver with the message "Invalid Service" bouncing around the screen.
Freesat on the latest LG TVs also suffers from the lack of MHEG support; instead of the off air CBeebies and BBC Four screens, the viewer sees the "Invalid Service" screensaver and instead of the usual graphics for the radio services, the viewer is treated to an "Audio Only" screensaver.
999 Freesat Info was updated to HbbTV recently and no longer shows as "Invalid Service".

StevensOnln1: Showcase is back on BSkyB 192 since 6 Feb.
Rowland mills: Showcase is not currently on Freesat but you can access it in non-Freesat mode by scanning it in manually. Tuning details are: 11538 V 22000 5/6.
