Does anybody know of any new full size DAB+ Hi-Fi Tuners about to hit the market in the near future?

We seem to be a bit thin on the ground with these products as there are only a small handful around at the moment.

I presume that this shortfall is due to the general uncertainty in the DAB+ industry?

If the powers that be addressed this low bit rate issue once and for all maybe more manufactures of DAB and DAB+ Hi-Fi Tuner separates would release more models as these are far too thin on the ground at the moment, currently portables dominate this sector.
A good well designed solid DAB Tuner separate will always be a good investment in any domestic Hi-Fi setup.

Mike Dimmick: You write some very interesting observations on this topic, but asking over a million owners to scrap their standard DAB receivers so the nation can start afresh with a new digital format is going to be asking for the impossible.
It looks as if we have shot ourself's in the foot by diving straight in and opting for DAB as a national standard C/w with all its foreseen limitations as we are now caught between the devil and the deep blue sea, the only way forward now in my opinion would be for manufactures to ease in DAB+ or DRM+ on all new models as these formats are backwards compatible and this option would keep sales going until the level of ownership eventually gets to a level to warrant a switch over.

Interesting fact about Denon's multi award wining TU-1800 DAB Tuner (Now discontinued)
Many people nationwide are reporting that this tuner has become susceptible to signal dropout lasting for 4-5 seconds every half hour or so but only on the DAB band, FM&AM bands seem to be unaffected, the tuners microprocessor seems to be the cause, Denon's advice of rebooting the tuner has no effect.

Let's just get these bit rates boosted, the powers that be now know what is required if DAB is to have a solid and prosperous future.
This is the most sensible way of progression and investment to make to please the masses of High Fidelity Radio fans in the United Kingdom.

The UK has highest amount of DAB stations in the world but the lowest amount of bit rates!

According to Wikipedia, Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) is being considered by Ofcom for introduction in Britain in 2012 on the present AM medium wave band.

1. Can anybody confirm this is about to happen in the United Kingdom this year?

2. Would any type of Radio receiver that supports the AM band start to automatically receive in DRM ?

3. Would any special type of aerial be required or would the standard AM aerial be sufficient ?

Thank's in advance.

Ha, I know that this type of Progress is giving the average lay person a big headache!

And the over 75's have no chance of understanding the complexity's now involved in switching their "wirelesses" on and off. LOL!

We need some major investment in DAB transmitter technology in the UK if DAB is to be the way forward, it's a good sensible investment and will be for the benefit of all.

If those Bit rates could be improved upon sales of DAB hardware would rocket.

Stephen P: Any sensible consumer of DAB radio would be using mains power or at least via the built in rechargeable battery pack in the case of portable units primarily and only via disposable battery power as a last resort as the latter (as you quite rightly say) can make listening expensive due to DABs natural high DC current drain.

It is the increased station choice and the elimination of hiss on weak FM stations that make this format attractive in addition to Improved features for users, Less pirate interference and Some models offer a pause facility on live broadcasts.

As i have stated in my previous post, all that is now needed are increased bit rates to release the full potential of the DAB format.
