Problems with Sagem and TUTV Thompson PVRs

Andy Bell:

In the absence of any other response or suggestion, don't know if you can find anything of any help at Search Products Sagemcom Support
I'd hope someone who knows about this may post.

Roger Barber:

This is a free independent help site, nothing to do with the broadcasters etc. Whilst posters here try to provide help where possible, the site owner is the only one that can update information such as that embedded in the site and he's been unable to keep up with all the changes for the 700MHz clearance programme at this time, so I expect correction to the county name will not get much attention soon ;)

However, that said, I did a search the day before yesterday and could not find any information about this transmitter site. The only other possibility I've seen today is a small scale "Trial" DAB site on Block 8A 195.936 MHz.
Perhaps you could tell us what stations and frequencies actually broadcast from the Centre for Health site?

Malcolm Tonks:

Can't see any faults reported at the moment either by Freeview or the BBC. You shouldn't normally have any problems with reception from Brierley Hill. IF you can, with social distancing, check if your neighbours are having a similar problem?
If you are getting Channels 3 & 4, you should be getting a lot more besides eg. 5, 6, 10, 13, 14, 15, 18, 24, 28, 33, 100. Are you getting any of these?

If your neighbours are not having the same problem, then perhaps check all you coax plugs and connections behind your set etc.
If you happened to retune immediately before this happened or because you lost signal, it may have cleared correct tuning, so a retune may be the best option, but proceed as follows -
Unplug the aerial and do an automatic retune. This should clear all previous tuning as no channels are found.
Then plug the aerial back in and repeat the retune. Hopefully this will have restored all channels correctly.

Rose Trengove:

Hi. I can't find any problems listed at present for that transmitter, however are you sure that's the one you are receiving?
I ask because when was the last time you received Sony Movies as it's not transmitted from the Porthtowan transmitter. Some of Sony's channels are transmitted from Redruth, which is more or less due South of you, but your location will depend on whether you can receive those extra multiplexes.
It's possible that even if your aerial isn't pointed at Redruth you may still be getting a signal off a reception "side-lobe" on the aerial.
Also, Sony reorganised most of their channels last summer and a lot of them are now only transmitted on a Local multiplex which is only transmitted from certain main transmitters (not Redruth unfortunately).

What other channels are you missing? What are you still receiving?
A full postcode is needed to see what the predicted reception might be at your location.

Oops, must have been something in your post that the automated censor didn't like, no doubt incorrectly!

Thanks for the update. Putting one of the other poster's postcodes into the "system", Freeview are now showing "There is work due to affect the signal in your area......." & Bluebell Hill has been listed for Planned Engineering for the week commencing 23/03/2020 with "Possible service interruptions" and the BBC site is showing "From 11:18am to 0:02pm on 26th Mar 2020 BBC B HD Slightly reduced power due to essential engineering".

G meades:

As you probably know, you are in a bit of an "awkward" spot for reception from several of the transmitters which you might be able to receive at your location. Most are listed as having "Variable Reception" at your location for some or all of the multiplexes.
None of them are listing any recent or current faults or Planned Engineering, so if you can check which way your aerial is pointing and whether the rods are vertical or horizontal that might help to narrow down the potential problem. If the rods are horizontal, it should be one of the main transmitters, or vertical for Tenby.

If the aerial is pointing -
~SW - it's definitely the Tenby relay, PSBs1-3 on UHF C32, C34, C35
Fractionally E of N bearing 8 degrees - it's Preseli, PSBs1-3 on C43, C46, C40, COMs4-6 on C42, C45, C39
~ENE bearing 72 degrees - it's Carmel, PSBs1-3 on C23, C26, C29, COMs4-6 on C33, C36, C48
It's possible it could be ~SSE bearing 153 degrees, Huntshaw Cross PSBs1-3 on C30, C31, C37 which may give good reception from this West Country transmitter.

As you say you have had no or pixelated reception, if your neighbours aren't having similar problems, it would be sensible (especially if you've changed or moved anything recently) to check all your coax plugs, connections, flyleads etc, unplug connectors check for corrosion or other problems and reconnect them. Flyleads are a common problem, try swapping/changing them. See what signal strengths and quality you are getting for any of the multiplexes shown in your TV's tuning section. Also check that your downlead looks undamaged (especially if it is old) and that your aerial seems intact and pointing in the correct direction.
Problematic connections, water ingress etc. can seem to affect reception of just an individual or several multiplexes.

I had absolutely no doubt that there wouldn't have been anything objectionable in the post. The automated censor is obviously a reactive thing that scans posts sometime after they are made which is why they appear for a short time. I expect it found a "string" of characters that it managed to interpret as something objectionable, some swear word or something else obscene. Where I've posted long complex posts, I have occasionally taken to taking a copy of the text and saving it in a text file before I post, so that I can recover it if the need arises.

ALL:

April 22nd Retune is now postponed due to the Covid-19 situation, see https://www.ofcom.org.uk/….pdf
Putting postcodes into the Freeview Detailed Coverage Checker is now just indicating a date of 2021, presumably something more specific will be stated when it's decided in the future.

I expect you mean 60 &61, 50 & 51 are NI channels. It was explained to you back in September in response to your post then, that unless you lived near the Manchester area and could receive the Manchester multiplexes then you wouldn't be able to get those channels.

Sony renamed and reorganised most of their channels last September and moved many to different multiplexes, that was/is the broadcaster's choice (this is an independent help site). To see which channels are on which multiplexes, see Channel listings | Freeview

StevensOnln1 has explained the commercial implications. To pursue this you are best trying to contact Sony, see Sony Movies UK | and towards the bottom of the page you'll find many ways of reaching them.
