John martin:

Um, don't really want to be nit-picking, but correction there, the BBC is funded by the licence fee payer, not the taxman.

emdubya77:

Well, ish..... indeed. As the item explain, it's all part of the Paramount Network and will be showing much the same programmes.

Geoff Heath:

Or even Sutton Coldfield emdubya77, as that area is north of Worcester itself. Freeview aren't predicting any reception from Malvern around there, so it could be weak from Malvern.
Geoff, you should be able to get good reception from Sutton Coldfield except COMs7&8 which are likely to be poor.
But if you are getting reception from Malvern, the current potential cause of the problem is likely to be the same whichever transmitter you are getting.

I made a long post here Malvern (Worcestershire, England) Full Freeview transmitter | free and easy on the Malvern page a week ago for someone with a similar problem. These effects have still been around recently, maybe not always as strong.

The listings from 16th October 2019 are the correct ones. The site owner is aware of many lists that haven't yet been updated as he hasn't be able to get all the changes due to the 700MHz clearance noted. There are over 1100+ transmitters in the UK, quite a few of which have changed. In the meantime, the best place for accurate information (usually) is Freeview | All your favourite TV shows, all in one place and all for free

Blimey, how did you dig up this page, Ondigital boxes went out with the ark. But aside from that, there are no reports on the Mynydd_Machen transmitter page. I can't find any problems listed either by Freeview or the BBC for the transmitter, nor is it listed for Planned Engineering.
However, there is still some of the unusual weather related Tropospheric Propagation around in some areas, see Effect of tropospheric ducting on Freeview | Help receiving TV and radio

It won't always (necessarily) affect all multiplexes at any given time, but it could affect all at any time.
If you haven't retuned, it should return as conditions stabilise. If you have retuned, try again, you may even pick up the wrong region or transmitter and it will all disappear again and you'll have to retune again when conditions change/stabilise.

Brian:

I can't find any reports elsewhere of similar problems, nor any reports of transmitter problems from Freeview or the BBC, nor on the Bluebell Hill transmitter page here.
Are you/have you been also missing other channels on the ArqB multiplex? see Channel listings | Freeview

There's still some weather related Tropospheric Propagation around affecting some - Effect of tropospheric ducting on Freeview | Help receiving TV and radio
I put a long post on the Bluebell Hill page a week ago.

If you have retuned and lost correct tuning, you will have to try again and it could be hit and miss whilst the unusual propagation continues. If you are able to do a manual tune for the correct UHF channels, you may still receive interference or the wrong programmes. For Bluebell Hill the correct UHF channels are C32, C34, C40, C43, C46 for the SD multiplexes, C45,C55,C56 for the HD multiplexes and C21 for the Local Multiplex. Reception of particular multiplexes, especially the COMs7&8 and Local will depend very much on location.

The above post should have been addressed to you but a bug on these pages addressed it to Brian which I didn't spot.

Bob:

Hi Bob. > I think SOMEONE should say something in the BBC's defence...!

Well I used to, and defend the TV Licence Fee, but not any more. Yes they do produce too many (generally overpaid) Celebrities! You are partly right in that it's the bean counters at the top that need to have their arms twisted. But it's middle management as well, and a lot of the editors, especially news.

Over the last 12-18 months or so, I've watched reports from other viewers on Points of View and News Watch about new reports they've either done badly, issues they've ignored, or some they've given prominence to which didn't deserve it. And before anyone here jumps on the bandwagon about supposed bias towards or against Labour or the Conservatives etc. I'm NOT referring to ANY of that.

The BBC is/has been known over the years for it's accuracy in News reporting and a source to be trusted, but many think that's no longer the case. Where Editors have appeared on NewsWatch for example, to answer the complaints about poor/incorrect reporting etc. I can't remember one that I watched where they've said "Sorry, we got it wrong". There's ALWAYS an excuse or a poor reason (IMHO) why they did it. Such arrogance is the problem. I have even taken to watching ITN news a lot more. Must make an effort to watch Sky as well (but they aren't always too clever!).

When significant numbers of people start to think they can no longer be trusted as an always accurate source of news, questions get asked. They waste money sending news & camera crews to locations where no-one official is either present or going to come out to speak to them eg. outside the MoD for some reason. They can do that from a studio with and electronic background inserted. There's plenty of similar examples.
No doubt others would sight plenty of other non-news issues as well.

I think its a great shame because we need a good reliable Public Service Broadcaster, but they can't be allowed to carry on the way they are. They've also lead the way on the technical front, that is also so important, but now ignoring things they shouldn't. People expect a lot from modern digital technology. eg. just look at the Ruckus over the last week about the weather related Tropospheric Ducting wiping out Freeview reception for 10's of thousands. Not the Beeb's or anyone else's fault, granted. We can't control that weather, but it clearly shows what people expect.

John Martin:

As you appear to be so good at moaning or criticising, why don't you write to Gary (can't stand his arrogance anyway) and Graham and tell them they've got to take a pay cut as well as pay for a transmitter upgrade or two.

John martin:

I don't/never did expect that having a "moan" on here would have any effect on the BBC! I was merely responding to some other comments, initially about HD transmissions, with a different point of view. Endof.
