Apart from Sony Movies LCN32 on the ArqA multiplex https://www.freeview.co.u…ngs, as Mike says the rest are on the Local Multiplex, which is beamed North towards Bristol (see the LBS - red - transmitter output above the posts), so I doubt you'll get it, but as Mike says a full postcode is needed to look at predicted reception.

David Ward:

When comparing the JVC 'Quality' and the Samsung 'Bit Error Rate' are you doing this at exactly the same time? Is the JVC still the same now?
The reason for asking is there's been some Tropospheric Propagation over recent days which has affected TV reception for lots of people in varying parts of the country at varying times. It may be that the JVC tuner is not quite as good as the Samsung at decoding the signal under certain interference conditions.

Other possibilities - What is the Signal strength on the JVC, and is there a strength reading for the Samsung? It's possible that if there is interference coming in, it might just be enough in addition to the usual signals to cause some tuner front end overload.

Also check all your coax connections. I assume you have some sort of splitter to give the two outputs, try swapping them over, likewise check out any flyleads by swapping if you don't have a spare. It is possible for such faults etc to affect only one multiplex.

I would have thought it unlikely there's any fault at the transmitter, I would have expected to see more people with problems, I can't find anything reported by the BBC or Freeview, and the transmitter isn't listed for Planned Engineering.

Chas Turner:

Well that will depend upon which transmitter you get your signals from. You might have a choice of Mendip or Oxford, maybe even Hannington. If the latter, you might be lucky to get any reception.
If your aerial is pointed roughly E towards Oxford or SW towards Mendip you might get all multiplexes, not so if it's pointing ~SE towards Hannington. But that's mostly guesswork. A full postcode is needed to look at the predicted reception at your location.

Dave:

All of them? Even 201-203?
The rest are probably those on the COMs7&8 multiplexes which generally are likely to be weaker signals. It'll depend on which transmitter you get your signals from.
There's still some variable Tropospheric Propagation about which may be affecting reception of those.
If you can do a manual tune of the UHF channels for those two muxes (most transmitters are now using C55/C56 but not some of the northern ones yet, such as Winter Hill. Retunes coming soon.).
If you are still having problems, post back with a full postcode so we can look at predicted reception at your location.

I think plugging the aerial directly into the TV would be the best thing to try first, I should have spotted that! But if it's an old analogue TV relying on the digital tuner in the DVD recorder, then you may have to buy a new Set Top Box or DVD recorder, or splash out on a new TV.

Had trouble finding your post because of the way this site works with some analogue transmitter pages!
How are you receiving R4? FM, DAB, or LW
If on FM from the Blaenplwyf transmitter on 104Mhz, there has been problems at the transmitter with slightly reduced power due to a fault and it also being off-air for essential engineering. The other BBC FM stations were also affected.

I do know where it is, I'm not stupid. And looking at reception for the Local Pub shows Good reception from Mendip!! So as I said, it's a bit of guesswork without a full postcode!

As previously mentioned, this site is not as up-to-date as one would hope. A lot of the work needed to do so has to be done manually and derived from pdf documents, not a job I envy the site owner.
There doesn't seem to be any single place that relevant information is presented clearly.
Even Gold's website Radio - Gold is not exactly that helpful, other than mentioning that it's now available DAB+ with increased coverage.

There's some pages on this site (see the MENU top LHS) that have some information which may be incomplete.
List of all DAB multiplexes | free and easy - you'll find a list of the frequencies on this page
All UK DAB radio transmitters | free and easy
Details of all DAB radio station | free and easy
One can get to Details of all DAB radio station | free and easy /GOLD which says it's on the Cambridge mux (11C) which is transmitted (amongst others) from Sandy Heath.
There's also another local mux (Herts Beds Bucks)10D transmitted from Sandy Heath.
Those in addition to the BBC National (12B), Digital One National (11D), and SDL National (11A) networks.

This is a very useful site DAB Ensembles Worldwide | Latest News & Updates but requires some navigating! It has UK history from 1995

To see what stations you should get, you can put your postcode in here ukdigitalradio: Home
There's other info there, but personally I don't find it especially user friendly or intuitive.
You might find this document http://www.frequencyfinde….pdf useful.

Emley Moor (Kirklees, England) transmitter

mike davison:

Reception of the COMs 7&8 muxes on UHF C55&C56 is very location dependent. For Philip's location reception is predicted to be very good for all multiplexes, with COM8 a miniscule fraction less than the other multiplexes, although COM7 will be similar after Feb.5th.
I did stupidly suggest he did a retune with the aerial unplugged when he'd already done it! We don't know what the outcome of the other suggestions was. I note he didn't mention any issue with the HD channels on the BBC HD mux on C41 or the other HD (or SD) channels on COM7 C55 eg. BBC News HD, 4+1 HD, 4/7 HD, RT HD.

Philip: If you can let us know how you got on, that would be good. One question I didn't ask was have you got any AT800 filters installed?

Will there ever be more services on the Freeview Light transmit

MikeP:

I find your constant contradiction totally unacceptable. Whilst we know that the Freeview coverage checker might have its shortcomings, the precise location can have a marked difference depending on which particular hills happen to be on the line of sight. That's clearly proven by the fact that small variations in postcode can give very different results.
I stated VERY clearly that the predicted reception for the local pub GL7 5BL was good for Mendip, I also said that as far as reception for Chas Turner, it was guesswork without a full postcode. That was ALL very CLEAR. To try and claim that is untrue is NOT ACCEPTABLE. I don't know what checker you used, but the Freeview Detailed Coverage Checker does NOT give "preferred" transmitters.

For the Village Hall GL7 5BS it gives the "most likely" transmitter being Oxford BUT it also gives GOOD reception for some muxes from Mendip, better than Oxford for COMs 7&8. If you don't specify the House name/no: the predicted reception for all muxes from Mendip is good, showing that there is significant variation even within this postcode!
For the Pub, The Keepers Arms GL7 5BL it gives the "most likely" transmitter as Mendip with reception of all muxes except COM7 being good with the SDN mux being considerably better than from Oxford. If you don't specify the House name/no: the muxes apart from COM7 are marginally better, so yet again showing variation even within this postcode.

As I'm sure you know, Mendip and Oxford are two different regions, so depending on Chas Turner's postcode & house name/no: he MAY have a choice, as I originally stated, and that choice may be dependant on his preferred region as well as reliability of reception, and as I said it is otherwise guesswork.
I made no technical errors in my comments, so I politely suggest you stop being a petty nit-picker.
