Wendy - As brian says
The sky box if it is a plus box and not a HD box has 2 scart sockets

one scart socket is marked vcr one is marked tv
connect the vcrs output to the VCR socket then the TV socket to the TV
when you press play on the vcr the tape should come up on the screen automatically- as Brian says you may have to put the sky box into standby

Vic- if the dish is 20 years old and a 75 cm the likely hood of it pointing at sky at 28.2 east is slim I would imagine its for when sky was analogue and was pointing at 19.2 east

So sounds like you need it realigning - i would suggest swapping the LNB

or a new mini dish

Steve - what kind of meter are you using to check the signal , if you are using the kind with a needle on or a beep that gets higher pitched as you find a satellite then you cannot guarentee which satellite you are pointing at it only takes a few degrees of error to be pointing at the wrong satellite - try again but dont give up a day or a weekend doing it as many of my customers have done in the past, if you are struggling then call in someone like my self - I charge £45 for a standard sat dish re alignment - obviously prices will vary from area to area

Ive had great success with indoor aerials - granted not every location is suited to indoor aerials but if there is enough signal strength and you can install it where people arnt going to put clutter around or in front of it not a problem

Hi - if you are sure the dish is lined up properly then it does sound like a box related issue - one way to test this is to either take your box to a friends and connect up there and see if the box springs to life - or to bring a spare or friends box to your dish to see if the problem remanes on the other box - we as satellite installers can test the signal a whole lot more reliably on our test equipment we can see if one of the polarities is down - you could have border line signal and your box will show good

Another thing to try first is a software update - find the back up button on your box - (not the remote ) reach round find the power cable un plug it - wait a few seconds for the box to power down press and hold the back up button and insert the power cable keep the back up button held down untill all the lights come on - then give it half an hour to update (says 10 mins on screen but some boxes take way longer) - do it before you go to bed and try it in the morning !

Hope you get it sorted

Kim Is there an increase in traffic around the property at these times - could be impulse interferance caused by vehicles passing
Or could be mobile phone interference which sounds daft but I have known amplifiers to be swamped in the past and the picture deteriate due to this - noticed it when I didn't have a clue what was causeing a problem for this customer - I received a text message and at the same time the tv picture froze - we tested it by phoneing my phone and every time it rang the picture went off - and the customer lived next to a main road reported the problem happening around rush hour traffic - allthough we didn't put 2 and 2 togeather untill I got the text - I swapped the amp and as far as I'm aware problem solved
