Denny Boy - Unusual for new equipment
Give sky a chance to rectify the situation

Chris Conway -- Sounds like your power supply is overheating try putting a desk fan blowing cool air into it and see if it lasts longer than 10 mins

its a fix of about £50 for a new psu - alternatively upgrade to sky HD and sky will supply you a new hd box - would have to check their prices as they constantly change deals

Jamie - if you live near crystal peaks you could be on Emley Moor or Belmont - Billsdale is much more further north than Emley but we do get overlap usually its the BBC channels on CH 34 from billsdale but its unlikely in s12

go look at your aerial is it pointing the opposite direction to a satellite dish or almost the same angle

if its opposite your on Emley if its similar your on Belmont

Judging by your previous post I suspect Belmont as the BBC and the ITV mux are much more powerfull than the other 4 muxes - this should be addressed tomorrow as the second phase of Belmont switchover happens BY 6 am

I have a feeling that when you rescan in the morning all will be well !

If not give me a call and I can nip out and put an analyser on your aerial and advise - as you live close by I wont charge for popping out and having a quick look - i live near Crystal Peaks too on the other side - you may have seen my van knocking around as im regularly in your area

if you rarely watch tv upstairs im assuming that you have sky downstairs
a cheaper option if your aerial is shot is to take a feed from your sky box to upstairs I normally charge £55 for doing this and if you want to control sky add £15 for a magic eye

Your on Emley moor then the signal from that transmitter is fairly consistent ie if you get bbc and itv you should get the others as they are on similar power (apart from ch49)

Emley moor switches over from the 7th of september so power levels will start to be increased

But the upping in power will mask underlying problems like water in the cable which is a common problem

so disconnect the aerial look at the connection - has it got signs of water is the braid starting to go black is there a white powder on the connections - these indicate water and need dealing with

Jean Brown - is there an amplifier on the system ?

Amplifiers are needed for some kind of installs - especially with pre switchover power that the transmitters were transmitting at

Its possible that due to the power been upped dramatically by the broadcasters your amplifier is being driven into whats called cross modulation - simply put your amplifier cannot cope with the amount of signal

possibly a Attenuator fitted to the amplifier input may reduce the overloading making the amplifier do its job

if its a set back amplifier that just feeds one tv then you can probably disconnect the amp and feed the aerial direct to the tv
please note that
if you haven't got an amplifier on the system then it maybe your tv cannot cope with the amount of signal now going into it - again an attenuator can be used to reduce the signal
I would try a 12DB attenuator as this is about the level the broadcasters have lifted the signal by

Maplin stock them

Aerial Attenuators : Aerial Adaptors : Maplin

(got to say that is about 3 times more exspensive than IU buy them for )
