John Bowker:

Without knowing your location, by you providing a full post code, we have no way of knowing which transmitter you are using nor what the reception conditions locally are like. It is very rare for retune instructions to be given unless there are actual changes made to the transmissions.

The messages are generated, normally, by your TV set when it detects what it thinks are changes, so please check all your aerial connections, unplugging and re-inserting where possible (poor connections are a common cause).

RONAN:

Please don't shout! All capitals is regarded as shouting.

There are no reported problems at the Limavady transmitter. You should investigate your aerial system as that may have a faulty/poor connection. Also check with your neighbours to see if they have the sam problem with Freeview.

If, by retuning, you have picked up a different transmitter then look at the top of this page for the channel numbers used at Limavady and manually retune to those only - do not do an auto-tune as that will possibly lose your channels again. (You should never do a general retune if a few channels are lost.)

Andrew Land:

Wharfedale is a Freeview Light transmitter so only carries the PSB services as commecrial operators probably deem it uneconomic to provide further services.

The transmitter uses Channels 22, 25 and 28. The services on Channel 28 are encoded using DVB-T2 methods to provide HD capability and that needs a Freeview HD capable receiver. If it does not show on your TV then it is not a Freeview HD type.

See Which Freeview channels does the Wharfedale transmitter broadcast? for all the details.

David Freeman:

Whilst generally agreeing with MikeB, you really need to provide a full post code so that we contributors can determine what the reception conditions are at you precise location, just giving the information you have does not help at all.

What multiplex channel number are you getting it on? The listing of what is transmitted from Guildford does not mention That's Surrey, but it may be on one that does not have a complete listing.

Ian Davis:

There has not been any engineering work reported at Mendip so there has been no known change to the aerial usage.

100% signal strength is too much. What is it like on the other multiplexes? You ideally need between 60% and 85% for good reliable reception, any more and there is a high risk of break-up and the strength should be reduced by using an attenuator or turning down the gain of any amplifier fitted in the aerial cable.

Chris Pearce:

The ITV services are organised on a regional basis, hence Meridian, HTV West, STV, etc.

At Blackhill, Channel 32 is used for the COM7 services which are coded using DVB-T2 so you need a Freeview HD receiver to get that as well as COM8 on Channel 35. Do you get Channel 35? Note that an 'HD Ready' television is not capable of receiving DVB-T2 transmissions, only displaying the pictures fed from a separate set top box if that is Freeview HD capable.)

Please give a full post code so we can check whether you location is served by those channels.

Ian Davies:

From what you report it very much sounds as if you have problems with your aerial or the cables connecting it to the TV set. Please carefully check all the connections and ensure thatbthere is no visible damage to the cables. then unplug all aerial onnections and plug them back in (that is to ensure there is no oxidation of the contacts, which often causes the problems you report. Then check the signal strengths of all the multiplexes broadcast from Mendip, they should be no less that 50% for the SD services and no less than 60% for the HD services. None of them should be more that 85%, if they are then that will also cause the problems you report.

Finally, please enter you full post code so thet we contributors can check what the signal transmission and reception conditions are at your exact location.

We still need your full post code. Without it there is no way we can help. Are you sure that your aerial system is correctly installed and aimed? What are the signal strengths of all the multiplexes being broadcast from Mendip?
